How is Connecting to the FFXIV Servers 2 Days After the Upgrade?

Connecting to the game is easier now than it was Tuesday, but some people are still experiencing connectivity issues.

The update to Final Fantasy XIV‘s servers went live early Wednesday morning, giving access to thousands of players unable to easily login over the game’s early access period and release week. Now that the servers have been upgraded, is connecting easier for everyone? Almost.

The addition of new worlds and servers helped alleviate the stress servers were seeing and it is true that logging in now is a much less troublesome task than it was before, but some people are still experience difficulties.

Naoki Yoshida addressed the community in a forum post yesterday giving information on what has changed, and what the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn team is doing to move toward a fully-functional game for everyone.

The first thing to note in the above post is that the simultaneous users per server number has been increased from 5,000 to upwards of 7,300 (with a maximum of 7,800). Further increase in this number could mean heavy lag in populated zones (Quarrymill is bad enough as it is), which means this number is not likely to be increased much further than it is now.

Yoshi-P states that game has reached 325,000 simultaneous users after the server upgrade, and that he expects this number to increase. In response, the team will be “substantially” increasing the number of available worlds, creating another duty finder world group, and increasing the amount of instance servers.

Having connectivity issues?

With all of the upgrades to Final Fantasy XIV‘s server infrastructure we’ve already seen, the servers are still packed with people. Most players are currently able to login and play the game with no issues, but there are still some who meet the notorious 1017 and others who have been experiencing connectivity issues since Wednesday’s patch.

If you have been experiencing disconnections during gameplay, head to this thread on the official forums and post your ISP, country of residence, and when your problems occur. Square Enix is currently looking into ISPs classifying the game as peer to peer software, which is throttled by some providers.

For the time being, connecting to Final Fantasy XIV isn’t perfect but it is getting there. One can understand why digital sales would remain halted, and Square Enix is going to have to get all of their ducks in a row before allowing those floodgates to open. Let’s just hope it happens sooner rather than later.
