WoW Players Soon Able to Revive Deleted Characters

A new update will soon allow players to revive characters they previously deleted, within limits.

An upcoming patch for popular MMORPG World of Warcraft will allow players to revive their deleted characters. Although Blizzard has not said when specifically the patch is set to release, they have hinted that it will release before the upcoming expansion pack Warlords of Draenor, which is set to release November 13. This patch will apply to the current World of Warcraft, not the Warlords expansion.

How this new system will work.

Players will suffer no penalties for reviving characters; they will come back just as they were before they were deleted. That said, Blizzard has outlined numerous stipulations on how these revivals will work:

  • Players can only revive a character once every 30 days.
  • Characters level 10 or below cannot be revived.
  • Characters between levels 10 and 29 must be revived within 90 days of being deleted. Otherwise, they are deleted permanently.
  • Characters between levels 30 and 49 have a 120 day limit.
  • Characters level 50 or above (55 or above for Death Knights) can be revived at any time.

Also important is how the new system will handle duplicate names. According to Blizzard:

If you create a new character with the same name as one of your deleted characters (let’s say Flugur), the new character must be renamed, transferred, or deleted to complete the restoration of the original Flugur.
