To The Moon, a cult classic PC game is getting ported to mobile phones along with an update to graphics and game mechanics.

Indie publisher Freebird Games brought To The Moon to players roughly five years ago with an incredible plot and unique play experience. XD network, the developers behind Ragnarok Online will be in charge of porting the HD game to iOS and Android. The game is being remastered to reflect new game mechanics and graphics with softer edges in a style reminiscent of oil paintings.

To The Moon processes the complexity of death through the lens of a wish fulfillment fueled reality in the memories of the the dying. The plot follows the journey of two doctors who trek through the memories of an old man to make actualize his final wish. Kan Gao, the creator and sole developer of To The Moon expects testing to be finished by the end of 2016 with a full launch in 2017. 

In January, Gao discussed the pressures behind creating another title after the success of To The Moon:

To The Moon’s release certainly changed my life in a lot of ways. It is certainly wonderful to be able to not worry about stability for the time being while making the game, but at the same time — and I don’t mean to sound ungrateful — there is a kind of expectation and pressure that comes with it that almost balances things out in terms of my focus.
