Sony has announced that their next-gen console, the Playstation 4, will now allow players to record gameplay footage using a HDMI connection. This is good news for those that like to record their gameplay and make their own videos to upload to video hosting websites like YouTube.
Sony did not allow players to record gameplay footage through a HDMI connection on the Playstation 3, which meant that players would have to use analog cables to record their gameplay. Sony restricted players from using HDMI by using HDCP copy protection forcing players to use other means like component cables.
Sony has cut down on the number of ports for the Playstation 4.
The decision to allow players to record gameplay through a HDMI connection was made in part because of the switch to all HDMI outputs on the Playstation 4. Which means that the players might need to invest in a new capture card if their capture card does not support a HDMI signal.
This could be bad news for someone, myself 
included, whose capture card only uses component cables to record video. The capture card pictured to the right is the popular Hauppauge HD PVR that will be obsolete when the new consoles launch in November. But overall, HDMI outputs are for the best. They are easy to hook up and provide great quality for video and audio.
