The Xbox One is set to launch in 29 new markets through September, attempting to even the playing field between its rival the PlayStation 4.

As the PlayStation 4 is available in 72 countries worldwide, currently the Xbox One is only available in 13. Do the math, that’s a wide gap between the availability of each system.

However, the Xbox One will soon be available in some major markets, all of which are listed below with their respective release dates:

  •     September 2 – Chile and Colombia
  •     September 4 – Japan
  •     September 5 – Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates
  •     September 15 – Israel
  •     September 23 – Hong Kong, India, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, China
  •     September 26 – Russia

Although there is no release date, Microsoft said they do plan to release the Xbox One in Argentina before the end of 2014 as well.

So what does this mean for the future of the Xbox One?

Well, when September ends the Xbox One will be available in 41 countries.

However, the future isn’t all that bright for the Xbox One. Sony has confirmed the sale of 10 million units at their Gamescom 2014 press conference in Cologne, Germany. All the while Microsoft has only confirmed the shipping (not sale) of 5 million units currently.

On the flip side, since its $100 price drop in June the Xbox One’s sales have “doubled” according to Microsoft.  Will this console war continue to be one sided? Only time will tell.

Born a gamer, living a gamers life, and will die a gamer. I vividly recall playing Mortal Kombat 1 for the first time, I just happened to be 4 years old. Thankfully I didn't grow up to become a psycho who rips peoples hearts out, I grew up to be a writer, which is significantly less violent. However In my spare time I do rip people's hearts out via my Xbox 360 or PlayStation 4. A down to earth college student looking to get his start in video game writing.
