Initial Opinion: Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection

Rather fun and pretty to look at, simple addictiveness and easy to get into, a perfect fit for a fan of Neptunia

Okay, so, this cannot be considered a full review as I’ve not finished the game yet, this is only what I think of the game so far therefore it’s my “Initial Opinion”.

Before I begin I should explain to you what Hyperdimension Neptunia is.

The Neptunia series consists of a series of JRPG’s that take place in the world of GameIndustri, basically the series is a comedic commentary on the current game industry with the characters (main characters are all female) being humanoid representations of various game consoles and companies.

Producing Perfection however is…a little different, it takes the main characters of  the series and puts them in a strategy/sim game.

Basically an evil pop group is taking shares away from the four goddesses Neptune, Noire, Blanc and Vert and so in order to gain their shares back the four goddesses or “CPU” (which stands for Console Patron Unit) decide to become pop idols.

That’s where the player comes in, you’re cast as the role of the producer and your job is to manage the daily lives of whichever CPU you choose to manage  (in my case Vert).

You must balance work (such as launching Ad Campaign’s, attending public events and Recording all in order to raise your CPU’s fanbase) and Study ( like Vocal Training, Dancing and Rehearsal etc. etc. to raise your CPU’s stats) with relaxation to keep your CPU from getting to stressed, when your CPU gets stressed her performance dwindles and she’ll begin refusing to work, study or attend concerts until her stress level drops.

There’s also various dating sim elements to the game but I’ve not been able to fully explore those as of now, so what happens when your CPU attains max affection for you is still a mystery to me.

The game has very nice visuals they’re bright, vibrant and colorful,  you’re mostly staring at 2D character portraits through most of the game. You certainly have

But the 3D character models used for the concerts look great on the Vita.

The music, while catchy, is as whole…forgettable, that is actually a shame considering it’s a game about pop idols therefore music is the driving force, but alas, though it’s not bad, you won’t be humming the tune in the shower later.

As whole the game as a sim/strategy game is pretty shallow, you’re mostly just selecting  “Work”, “Lesson”, “Relax”, “Concert” and waiting for something to happen or “Move” to move to a different office at a different city in GameIndustri, but despite it’s shallowness…there’s an addictive fun to it, the type of fun you’d usually get from an iPhone game or such, you  know the “just a few more lessons” “just one more concert” type of fun.

So my overall Initial Opinion of the game is a hard 7, it is rather fun and pretty to look at but for a game about music, having music this forgettable is a shame. But with its simple addictiveness and  how easy it is to get into, there’s definitely enjoyment in it especially if you’re a fan of the Neptunia series.
