Nintendo Goes Full ’90s Nostalgia With New 2DS

Nintendo is looking to bring back clear shell handhelds in the UK, but will they bring them to the US?

It looks like Nintendo is bringing back the old school flair of see-through electronics.

Nintendo’s UK Twitter, just announced a Transparent Red and Transparent Blue 2DS for release on November, 7th. It’s interesting that they chose these two colors specifically. The most probable reason is due to the release of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire that is happening later in November.

The biggest issue is that this announcement was on Nintendo’s UK Twitter. This doesn’t confirm the device iteration to be released in the states.

However, Nintendo has released products with a clear shell in the past here. Hopefully this will give them the confidence to release another clear shelled handheld. There is no doubt that these colors of 2DS would become popular in the US, so here is to hoping that they make these handhelds available. While Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are both based on Ruby and Sapphire, which was released in 2003, this move for clear electronics sure does pull on your 90’s nostalgia strings.
