Video: Startling changes between Ubisoft’s E3 demos and released game visuals

A YouTuber posts a video displaying the blatant differences between Ubisoft's E3 demos to actual released gameplay.

Something to watch before this year’s E3–YouTuber CrowbCat released a video showing the graphical changes between Ubisoft’s E3 demonstrations and actual PC gameplay (with maxed resolution settings). The differences go beyond textures–released games have different UI, different layouts, and overall a muddier appearance compared to their E3 predecessors.

For a visual example, take a look at this side-by-side screenshot of Tom Clancy’s The Division (E3 demo on the left, released gameplay on the right):

From the minor details on the character’s bag to the major building changes of the cityscape, various parts of the original E3 trailer have been altered. Gone is the pluming manhole smoke lit by the brake lights of a stranded car, now replaced as a mostly inconspicuous part of the abandoned street.

Have another side-by-side visual, from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (E3 on left, actual on right):

Many commenters on the video are upset about the downgrades, describing the E3 demos as “inexcusable, blatant misleading” or “con artistry”.

Other commenters tried to justify the downgrades. Youtuber ImAnderZEL responded with:

Sure Ubisoft is guilty of tricking us shame on them. But consoles are to blame…they just lack the power to run most games at 1080p.

Thus from all the replies comes one important lesson to learn from this video: take this year’s E3 demonstrations with a grain of salt!

E3 2016 takes place from June 14-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.
