Top 5 Special Edition Nintendo Systems

Special themed systems are a dime a dozen for Nintendo.

When certain games get released, they get specially made systems to coincide with the release. Games that are seen as big-name, heavy-hitter titles usually get their name in lights, or at least cased in system history.

I started to think about this when I saw the Persona Q 3DS coming to the United States at GameStop. At times, Nintendo does this to bank on the nostalgia factor (but more on that later).

Enjoy!

Super Smash Bros For 3DS Blue 3DS

Let's start the countdown right with the Red Super Smash Bros 3DS. Nintendo knew that Smash Bros was one of those games that warranted a special release, and not only did they release one 3DS, they released both a blue and a red one, so you could pick which one you like better - kind of like the "select your fighter" feature.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Gold 3DS

Nintendo continued their trend of giving big-name games their own 3DS systems. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was shown off at E3 a few years ago and had everyone talking. This sequel to A Link to the Past gave Link the ability to pass between the light world and the dark world by way of paint/chalk drawing. The two tri-force symbols on the system represent the A Link Between Worlds main story.

Pikachu Nintendo 64

During the Pokemon craze of the mid 90s (who am I kidding, the Pokemon craze is alive and well), Nintendo had Pokemon games on both the Game Boy and the N64. On these Pokemon-themed systems, Pikachu's cheeks would light up. This showed that Nintendo had charm and was trying to get a hold of all ages. Hey You, Pikachu coming out at the time was another factor in creating a Pikachu Nintendo 64.

Pokemon Game Boy Color

Pokemon had arrived on the scene and everyone knew it. During the Gold and Silver generation, Nintendo finally learned what they had and decided to try to cash in on it. This Game Boy Color is the result (or one of them, at least). There was another Game Boy Color that was based on the Gold and Silver generation with Totodile, Cyndaquil, and Chikorita on one side of the screen. This one has Pikachu on one side, with the power light/Pikachu cheeks lighting up when you power up the system.

Nintendo Classic NES Controller 3DS

Nintendo always does something like this to pay homage to their baby, the NES. There was a Game Boy Advance SP with the classic controller look. Now Nintendo is doing it again with this 3DS that has the same classic controller look to it. Nintendo has tried to play off of nostalgia several times in their history. That's the main reason that Nintendo releases several copies of the same game/modified version of a game. If I needed another 3DS, this would be on the top of my list. Now, if only I had a Power Glove to hold the system, my look would be perfect.
