March 7th is right around the corner, which means the release of NieR: Automata on PS4 is inching nearer each day. The game is also scheduled to release on Steam, but will allegedly be delayed due to piracy concerns.

According to DSOGaming, producer Yosuke Saito stated in a recent stream that the PC version of the game will be slightly behind schedule. Saito said that Platinum Games and Square Enix will have to do something about the piracy problem that “plagues the PC platform”.

Past Square Enix games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided have used the anti-pirating software known as Denuvo, but both games were cracked after release anyway. Denuvo faces loads of criticism from PC gamers for making offline games dependent on online activation. Neither developer revealed whether NieR Automata will use Denuvo — but if Square Enix’s previous releases tell us anything, it’s more than likely that it will.

A trailer uploaded by Gematsu from Square Enix’s press website reveals a March 10th release date for NieR Automata on Steam. However, on a nearly identical trailer posted to Square Enix’s YouTube page, the Steam date is omitted. This could signal a possible further delay to ensure that the DRM software does its job properly, especially considering that Resident Evil 7 got cracked within a week of release and had Denuvo.

Square Enix will host its fourth official live stream for NieR Automata tonight at 8:00 PM JST (6:00 AM EST) to release final details on the action RPG during its release day in Japan. The game can be pre-ordered on Square Enix’s website for both PS4 and Steam.
