Sakurai will host the final Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS video; Cloud and others expected to appear in Smash Direct

Nintendo of America has just announced over Twitter that on December 15th, at 2 p.m. PT, that Masahiro Sakurai will be hosting the final Smash Direct video. According to the post, this will be the final video presentation dedicated to Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and the direct will discuss Cloud and more information on the foreseeable future of Super Smash Bros.

While it is uncertain which other announcements will be made, it is widely theorized that Cloud will not be the only newcomer to be released in the coming days. Fans have speculated the return of Brawl and Melee veterans such as: Wolf, Snake, Pichu, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, Ice Climbers, and even Young Link.

Others are convinced that it will be an entirely new character, with the most mentioned characters being King K. Rool, the Inkling Boy or Girl, and Shovel Knight.

This announcement comes as both a pleasant surprise and a bit of a shock for the Super Smash Bros. community. Most followers on Twitter are having a hard time digesting the fact that this will be the final – as in never again will there be –  another announcement for Super Smash Bros., at least for this generation of the game. Instead, most of them are reassuring each other that there may be future announcements in Nintendo Directs instead of Smash Directs; however, the likelihood of this happening is slim to none as Nintendo seems pretty straightforward this time around about this being the last Super Smash Bros. video.

What characters are you expecting to see in the final Smash Direct? What new stages will be announced? Will there be hints as to a future Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo NX? Leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below!
