Ghost in the Shell Online Announced for 2014

Details about Ghost in the Shell Online, Nexon's upcoming MMOFPS, make their way to Japan.

Ghost in the Shell Online was announced two months ago as a collaboration between Japanese publisher Kodansha and MMO developer/publisher Nexon. Further information about the game was given at an event in Japan yesterday, giving us a better idea of what’s in store for the game’s 2014 release.

The presentation can be watched above, though be warned it is almost entirely in Korean and Japanese. The speaker’s companion images are in both Japanese and English, making it worth a watch even if you do not understand what is being said.

What is GitS Online going to be like?

Following in the footsteps of many Western developers, Neople (development studio under Nexon) is building Ghost in the Shell Online to be an MMOFPS along the lines of Planetside 2 and Defiance with some sort of hacking twist. Labelled as a “hacking FPS”, it will be a faction-based PvE/PvP title.

Players will be able to choose between the Hackers/Cyborgs or Section 9. All characters will cyborgs, which Neople claims will give players freedom to choose how heavily mechanized — and weaponized — their characters will be.

No further details about Ghost in the Shell Online have been released as of yet. We can assume the Japanese servers will be the first to launch in 2014, followed closely by the Korean release.
