Remote Gaming on a Tablet: Is it Possible?

Gaming remotely via your tablet is possible.

Ever been in that moment when you are away from home and remember you forgot to give your friend something? Perhaps they are supposed to be crafting you some new armor and you have all the metal. What if you aren’t going to be home for hours or even a few days? With remote software, it is possible to satisfy this gaming problem with remote gaming.

Remote Software

Remote software allows you to use your PC from your tablet or phone. Personally, I do prefer the tablet view as the screen is larger than your smart phone due to screen resolutions. It is still going to be smaller than what you are used to, but dimensions will remain the same. So far, I’ve been testing out using Splashtop Personal to research for this article.

By using remote software, you can utilize the processor of your computer to do most of the work. The tablet only has to render the screen preview. Speed of your software, and any lag or latency that you experience, will of course depend most on the speed of the internet signal you are surfing. For my testing, I was on my home wi-fi on both my laptop and tablet.

Tablet Accessories

You can use the remote software alone to remote in, but that will make movement a bit harder, especially since most games require more than just left and right clicking. One help I have found to aid me in being able to fully experience my game is a bluetooth keyboard. My tablet is a 7-inch, so the keyboard is rather small, but it is most definitely effective.

Bluetooth tablets, especially the portable kind are becoming more and more popular, and there is a large variety to choose from as well. There are your standard keyboards but they don’t tend to travel well. There are the kind that fit or make a case for your tablet (this is the kind I purchased). Another mobile keyboard I have found is one that is flexible and rolls up so it can easily be tucked into a purse or bag.

A really neat option, that I would love to get my hands on and test, is a projection keyboard. Projection keyboards are little boxes that project a laser keyboard on to a flat space. The projector picks up which key you are depressing by the change in the laser depth as your fingers enter the keyboard plane.

Have you ever tried remote gaming on your PC from a tablet?
