Bloodborne Guide – Blood Echoes and Farming

Get used to farming Blood Echoes, because you're going to need them.

Collecting Blood Echoes is a big part of the Bloodborne experience thanks to their range of uses and farmability. You need them, you want them, and at times you may need to farm them.

Before we go into some of the best spots to farm Blood Echoes, let’s take a look at their uses. They have five primary functions, each of which imperative to progressing through the game. Blood Echoes can be used to:

  • Increase your stats
  • Repair equipment
  • Upgrade equipment
  • Purchase items from Messengers
  • Perform the Chalice Ritual

Blood Echoes are essentially the game’s primary currency, and as such are a much-needed resource. So how do you get them?

  • Killing enemies
  • Selling items to Messengers
  • Consuming Coldblood

The amount of Blood Echoes you get from enemies varies per enemy, making some places better to farm than others. Items also sell for varying amounts, meaning there may be times it’s best just to sell the spoils you find to stock up on more Echoes.

Consuming Coldblood gives you Blood Echoes, and there are a few different types that give different amounts of Blood Echoes.

Coldblood is a little more tricky to come by than just Blood Echoes, as it’s found in various locations throughout the game. That said, it has the benefit of not being dropped upon death — so be sure to hold onto your Coldblood until you need it.

Farming Blood Echoes

I am terrible at giving directions, which is good for you: Because I’ve compiled a few YouTube videos showing off some viable Bloodborne Blood Echo farming spots at various stages of the game.

Not all of these spots are equal, and some give way more Blood Echoes than others. Just follow the videos that show farming spots matching the part of the game you’re in.

This first video shows where you can farm werewolves effectively very early in the game in Yharnam. If you’re having trouble at the very start of the game, this is your farming spot. A shorter video covering this process can be seen here.

The method in the video below is done in Hemwick Charnel Lane, relatively early in the game. You can get over 10,000 Echoes in just a couple minutes.

This next farming location is found in the Forbidden Woods and can yield over 100,000 an hour if done repeatedly.

Lastly, the farming strat seen in the video below is meant for players nearing or at the end of the game. This method nets over 600,000 Blood Echoes per hour, and is well-worth your time if you need Echoes at that stage of the game.

There are way more places for Blood Echo farming in Bloodborne than the strategies seen here, but these are just some of the few the community has been kind enough to share over the game’s first few days. More farming locations are sure to come.
