I’m not the only one who has ever exploited a video game bug. I know I am not the first, nor am I the last. The hype around this particular “item farming” zone was too much even for me to pass up.
So far, Destiny has been already plagued with a multitude of issues in the system. Be it some buggy graphical issues, a small level cap, and a whole lot of other things I will cover in my upcoming review of the game soon enough.
Right now I want hit on the “Loot Cave(s)” exploit and my own experience with it.

Sure, I will be the first to admit, I like to play games on the straight and narrow. In fact, I never used cheat codes when growing up, unless it was on games I really didn’t care about. Grand Theft Auto was one such game I just didn’t feel a sense of pride in beating the story normally nor did I feel guilty amassing all the weapons from the get go. Other games, if they meant something to me, I avoided any sort of trickery and wanted to enjoy the challenge in beating it vanilla.
This exploit was the first since Skyrim that I have actually went out of my way to test.
When word spread about “Loot Cave,” I began to read more and more into it. Normally I don’t give any credence to things like this, but with Destiny being such a hot button game I figured I just had to know more. The basics, for all of those who don’t know about it, you can find in this article here by A.J Labate that explains the original cave.
Simply, the Loot Cave is an area where the spawn timer for enemies is super short and there are enough of them filling out of it to amass a giant gravesite covered with loot.
You have to be a certain distance away for the spawning to trigger but that is all explained in the aforementioned article and a video from PS4Trophies Youtube channel discussing the Loot Cave 2.0.
You can spend hours upon hours farming the Loot Cave(s) for gear and random item drops.
I spent a good hour and 45 minutes testing the second one. I was curious and wanted to see just how well you could make out if you farmed for an extended period of time.
The results were less favorable than expected.
I was bored out of my mind. Sure I gained a level or two out of it, picked up a few Grimoire cards, and finished up a bounty, but the gear I scavenged was nothing like what I had heard about the first loot cave, which Bungie shut down not too long ago.
One item, a single piece of armor, was a higher rating than what I had and was the only thing I managed to take away that was worth it. The rest was dismantled in a heartbeat.
I feel like this is gaming karma, a rather fitting end – I only wasted my time. You cheat, you get cheated, so to speak.
I’m sure the first loots cave was amazing for those who participated but this second cave… I don’t recommend it, unless you just absolutely have the time to kill and want to dismantle all of the pieces for Glimmer.
My advice: stick to the standard way to play and avoid this questionable exploit. Loot Cave 2.0 doesn’t really give much back to justify the time spent. Plus, sitting in a cave for a few hours killing low level enemies after you’ve hit the level cap sounds like the opposite experience Bungie had in mind for Destiny.
