Valkyria: Azure Revolution’s demo is meet with criticism, gameplay to change as a result

Valkyria: Azure Revolution developers respond to player feedback of the latest demo. The game will now see changes to have it function more like a strategy RPG.

Recently, the developers of Valkyria: Azure Revolution have announced that the player responses to the game’s demo have been largely negative. The demo was available with the Japanese release of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered in February.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution, developed by Media.Vision, was announced in 2015 by Sega for the PlayStation 4. The new title is the fourth installment of the Valkyria Chronicles series and has no connection to the previous games. Thematically, it features a story about soldiers fighting against colonial rule by a powerful empire. The game will include the series’ trademark Valkyria — a race of super humans.

The developers have outlined that players weren’t in favor with the current design of it’s gameplay. The build played mainly as an action RPG. In response to the feedback, developers have stated that gameplay will be changed to be more strategy-focused. Party members will be increased from three to four. Also, the ability to offer the party direct commands will be added.

The cited reason for some of these changes is that players didn’t have time to plan their movements effectively, as per series standards. Another demo is scheduled to release this Summer in Japan, and this next demo is expected to feature some, if not all of the intended changes.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution is on schedule to release in Winter 2016 for Japan.
