The War Z Hack and Cheater Poll

Hammerpoint Interactive has stated that player account information is probably secure after their latest hacking, while also starting a poll asking players how they should deal with cheaters.

The War Z has more to say about its most recent hacking.  While originally commenting that players should change their forum and account passwords, Hammerpoint Interactive now says there is no “definitive” evidence their database for game accounts was actually accessed during the security breach.

The primary listed effects of the breach now were a series of random account bans.  Hammerpoint found and reversed these bans within hours of the attack, but has been worried ever since for the obvious reasoning that the ability to ban players showed a deep enough hack as to potentially threaten other sensitive areas of their databases.

Around the same time, the company began a poll on their forums asking players how they think The War Z should handle cheaters.  Their new idea is to take cheaters and place them all on a specific server.  Every player there would be a cheater, and the cheats would not be interfered with.  This would give the dev team behind the game a chance to observe the way these programs work in a controlled environment without risking the playtime or enjoyment of innocent players.

It is an intriguing concept, with the downside being the creation of an effective cheater’s paradise.  Some players might actually prefer to be among other cheaters, but at least it would still keep most players protected from them.
