The Guilty Gear franchise is a series of traditionally 2-D fighter games that first debuted in Japan in 1998 as a PlayStation exclusive. Set in an apocalyptic, mystical future of our world where “magic” is a limitless source of energy. When combined with living creatures or people, this magic turns them into “Gears” who then rebel against humanity and spark a war between humans and themselves.

Built on a 2-D engine, the Guilty Gear fighting games focus on well-defined characters, anime-worthy cinematic plots, and a whole lot of personality and style for every character. This holiday season will bring the first Guilty Gear game to feature fully 3-D character models to North America.

Aksys has not yet announced an exact date, only stating that the limited edition North American version of the game is now available for pre-order from major retailers Amazon and GameStop on their blog and hinting at a holiday 2014 release date. The features included with this limited edition are:

  • “The Backyard” – The outer box for the Limited Edition features a replica of “The Backyard” complete with gears and high-quality binding. Dare to open the book to uncover all the goodies!
  • Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Soundtrack – The Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- soundtrack is filled with the hard rocking tunes that the series is known for, arranged by Guilty Gear series creator, Daisuke Ishiwatari, himself!
  • Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Character Book – What limited edition is without its art book? The Character Book features a profile for each character from Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, as well as those from Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus and Guilty Gear 2 Overture, and a glossary of terms; a complete character history for those who have some catching up to do!
  • Sol Badguy “Free” Keychain – Inscribed with the word “FREE,” this metal keychain is a scaled replica of the original belt buckle worn by Sol! Add it to your keys to show off something truly unique!

Guilty Gear Xrd -Sign- is the tenth installment of the series and released to Japanese Arcades back in February. The limited edition North American release for the game on PS3 will be $69.99 and the PS4 version will be $79.99 and will be the first in the series to feature fully 3-D models for every fighter.
