Raise your hand if you want another NBA Jam! 'enthusiastically raises hand'

Looks like there’s a new NBA Jam in the works, and I couldn’t be happier.

Being a huge fan of the old-school arcade-style games, I really loved the last entry. Released by EA Canada back in 2010, it was definitely a retro homage from top to bottom. If they do another title, here’s hoping they keep that same classic core.

According to the official NBA Jam Twitter page, we can look forward to a fresh effort, perhaps some time soon:

We don’t have any details just yet but here’s hoping they’re just around the corner. If you’ve been pining for an experience we left behind in the arcades, check out the updated NBA Jam On Fire Edition, which was released in 2011 alongside versions for iOS and Android devices. I’ve been saying for years that we need more arcade-style fun in the sports department. Seems like every single new title is a simulator these days.

BOOMSHAKALAKA!!!

There’s something so innocently addictive about NBA Jam, isn’t there? Can you name even one person who really didn’t like these games? I mean, they were so accessible and so much fun that even if you weren’t a basketball fan, you’d still have a blast. This is the sort of universal fun factor I wish they’d bring back to the sports genre. Do it, EA!
