Micromon Tips: How to Pick Micromon Starters

Check this out for help with choosing your starter in Micromon, and an explanation of the elemental types.

Micromon is the iOS game that looks suspiciously like Pokémon. I won’t tell you my thoughts on the game as a whole here, that’s for the review. I will tell you that Micromon lets you choose a starter, just like in Pokémon games.

The difference here, is that you can choose between 5 Micromon instead of 3. These include every type in the game, Normal, Water, Fire, Wind, and Mineral.

  • Normal – Vidri
  • Water – Finleon
  • Fire – Glareon (I’m not even making this up)
  • Wind – Gust
  • Mineral – Crystoise

Now if you’ve played Pokémon before, or use standard logic, you might have an idea how this match up goes. Wrong!

The elemental rock, paper, scissors game is a little different in this game. Before giving my suggestion on a starter, let me explain the elemental properties.

  • Normal has no weaknesses or strengths against any type
  • Fire is weak to Water and strong against Wind
  • Water is weak to Wind and strong against Fire and Mineral
  • Wind is weak to Mineral and Fire and strong against Water
  • Mineral is weak to Water and strong against Wind

Confusing right?! It also doesn’t make sense in some cases, but that’s okay! I’ll help you through this.

This awkward system developed the following:

  • Water is strong against 2 types and weak to 1
  • Wind is strong against 1 type and weak to 2
  • Normal is all-around. Not strong against anything, but also has no weakness
  • Fire and Mineral are identical. Both are strong against Wind, and weak to Water. That’s right, Fire=Mineral. Why is this a thing?

Now, in the grand scheme of things, which you choose won’t impact the game much as you get further in. However, if you want the best starter based on these elemental properties, you have one clear choice: Finleon.

Finleon is the best starter based on his elemental properties because Water types have one weakness (Wind) and are strong to two other elements (Fire and Mineral). No other element has this type of combination in their favor. In the long run you will have an easier time thanks to this Water type’s obvious benefits over the others.

Keep in mind that as soon as you pick your starter and move on, you can catch plenty of Normal type Micromon at the beginning.

That’s all to choosing your starter in Micromon. Now that you know the type match-ups, you can choose which best fits your needs.
