Yooka-Laylee and Friends Drop Familiar, Sick Rap Beats

Bustin' rhymes and showcasing why Yooka-Layee's fun and creativity -- with a throwback to the platformers of yesteryear.

On a day like today, with a fake Grand Theft Auto TV show being announced and all sorts of other stuff that has forced me to stay off social media for the next 24 hours, it’s refreshing to see the cats over at Playtonic Games having a little fun. Instead of an awful prank, they have instead given us a wonderful throw back to the Donkey Kong Rap of yesteryear in the form of the new Yooka-Laylee Rap.

If you listen closely to both, you’ll notice the Yooka-Laylee Rap shares the identical rhythm of the Donkey Kong Rap — and notably, it shares the same aesthetics, rhyme flow, and beat as well. Both go into detail about who’s on the cover of the box and why they matter, like most rap songs do.

On top of that, both rap tracks also go into detail about specific character’s and their different abilities.

Developed by Playtonic Games, which is made up of many of the same creative minds that brought Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie to life in the 1990s, Yooka-Laylee is set to release on April 11. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for news, guides, and updates on Playtonic’s newest platform.
