CyberConnect 2 announces a new project and development studio

CyberConnect 2 celebrates 20th anniversary with development of their first self published game and a new studio.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, President and CEO of CyberConnect2, Hiroshi Matsuyama, discussed the company’s 20 year anniversary and its future. They’ve gone on to announce a new title in development, code-named Project Venom.

Development studio CyberConnect2 was founded in 1996, and their first developed title was Tail Concerto for the PlayStation 1. Since then, they’ve gone on to create titles such as the .hack// series, Asura’s Wrath, and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series. Most recently, they’ve been named as the developer behind the Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PlayStation 4.

The now-in-development Project Venom is described as a shooting action title. Matsuyama briefly mentioned that Venom is partly inspired by the Studio Ghibli film, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Currently, it’s unknown if this will be a first person shooter, and whether it will be a retail release, and/or digital only.

This will be the first self-published game for CyberConnect2, as well. Venom is planned to be release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam next year.

During the interview, it was also revealed that Cyber has a new developmental studio opening in Montreal, Canada. Matsuyama notes that the studio’s creation was necessary for expanding worldwide development going forward.

With a new studio opening and new projects scheduled to release soon, CyberConnect2’s future continues to be a busy as ever.
