July's PS Plus offerings are available now, and they're pretty great!

Here we are back with another round of the PS Plus Instant Games Collection, and spoiler alert, it’s a pretty great month!

Much to the dismay of some fans, primarily those unwilling to play “indie” games, there were no AAA games on offer this month again. That being said, what is on offer more than makes up for that. You get 4 games for your PS4 this month, 3 for the PS Vita, and 2 on PS3, (6 games overall, 2 of which are cross-buy).

Rocket League (PS4)

Do you like fun? Then get Rocket League.

That’s really all I need to say for this title, but for anyone unawares as to what this game is, I’ll break it down. Rocket League is a newly released, chaotic game in which you take control of a car and play football/soccer with other cars. It’s as weird an zany as it sounds, but 10 times more fun. Honestly, I turned on Rocket League the day it came out, at 2am, and figured I’d play a game and see what it’s like. I went to bed around 4:30.

You choose a car, customise it with hundreds of options, play season mode offline, or against others in exciting online matches. We here at GameSkinny absolutely loved the game. But reading descriptions and watching trailers can give you an idea of what the game is like, but the only way to really get the game is to play it for yourself. Which is what I implore you to do, it is free after all!

Styx: Master of Shadows (PS4)

Styx: Master of Shadows is a really pretty stealth game in which you play as a Goblin. It’s actually a prequel to the 2012 game, Of Orcs and Men. Styx must do as the title suggests, and stick to the shadows in order to progress. One cool aspect of the game is how the guards will act dynamically depending on your actions, thus making the game more difficult and thought-provoking – as a stealth game should be.

If you’re looking for a mini-stealth adventure that incorporates RPG elements, Styx: Master of Shadows is worth a shot!

Entwined (PS4, PS Vita)

Released during E3 2014, Entwined encapsulates the kind of unique, emotional indie games to be found on the PlayStation Store. You guide a bird and fish, who are in love but cannot be together, simultaneously through nine different worlds in order to unite them. The game has no dialogue but still manages to tug at your heartstrings.

The abstract art style and mesmerizing soundtrack are sure to make you lose track of time and fully immerse yourself in the world of Entwined.

MouseCraft (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)

A literal game of cat and mouse, Mousecraft asks you to guide little mice to get the cheese! What’s cool about the game, as you can see in the trailer above, is that Mousecraft is part Lemmings, part Tetris.

The ingeniously named Schrödinger Cat is the mad scientist using mice to figure out the mouse-powered machine. Mousecraft can become quite a tricky puzzle game but never cruel, which can be a hard blend to find. Mousecraft is a pretty ideal game for anyone with a Vita (raises hand in triumph)!

Rain (PS3)

Another beautiful PlayStation indie game, Rain is about a little boy following a girl, trying to keep her safe from the ghosts hunting her. It sounds dark and potentially scary, but Rain is really unique because the girl has no form, and the boy must also become invisible in order to safely navigate the world. As per the name suggests, you must use the rain to see your character and find your way.

An adventure game reminiscent of Limbo and Contrast, Rain is a memorable experience that you should play if you like the aforementioned games, or willing to try something new!

Geometry Wars 3 (PS Vita)

Geometry Wars 3 is an insane game that builds upon classics like Asteroids and Super Stardust. This is the sixth installment in the Geometry Wars series and the first on the Vita.

The description via PlayStation Blog reads ““Geometry Wars” has never been more apt as a title, featuring three-dimensional geometric battlefields that bend and flex under the force of your shape-shattering armaments.” This kind of game is definitely for a more niche audience but definitely up your alley if you enjoy multi-directional shooters.

Overall

To be honest, this months IGC is a total success based on Rocket League alone. That’s not to say the other games aren’t good, they are all good to great, but Rocket League is a phenomenal, addictive experience that should be played by everyone. Both Rocket League and Geometry Wars 3 (on PS Vita) are both new releases, so great value (and great overall value as evidenced below). There’s something for everyone, as always, in the July Instant Games Collection!

Total cost of the IGC: $104.00/£66.62
