Street Fighter V continued the Capcom Pro Tour with NorCal Regionals this past weekend. It was home to repeat performances and new surprises.

The second premiere event for Street Fighter V (SFV) was held at NorCal Regionals 2016 this past March 25-27. The yearly event has been held in Sacramento, California since 2002. To date, it has been the major fighting game event for the Northern California area. SFV was the main draw at the event ,but other games had fair attendance and high level competition.

Team Razer’s Infiltration (Lee Seon-woo) from Korea won first place for SFV, just as he did with last week with Final Round 19

What was also interesting during the event was the implementation of “the pool of death”. This is a pool where players who registered late are placed into unseeded spots and matches are randomly drawn. In recent memory, this hasn’t been exercised (only threatened often) by tournament organizers as a penalty. Looks like this time around, an example had to be made. The group numbered 52 players — in the end only two players survived; Marn & Mago (seen above).

From a showing of local and international players numbering over 500, Infiltration and MadCatz Tokido (Hajime Taniguchi) hailing from Japan found themselves in Grand Finals again. With this win, Infiltration will not earn another qualifying spot for Capcom Cup 2016. What will happen instead is that a spot can be earned through the Global Leaderboard Ranking points.

Capcom Pro Tour 2016 now has two major events completed — with many more to follow.
