Dying Light to Support Oculus Rift

Dying Light to receive Oculus Rift support, "...if they’re ready, we're going to be ready."

Getting VR to work is not an easy task, Techland have been battling with frame rates and dual-image rendering to get Dying Light to support the Oculus Rift, but now they think they have cracked it.

Dying Light Oculus Rift Support

…parkour over zombies with full head tracking.

This is of course not going to effect console players of the upcoming Dying Light, but for PC gamers, with an Oculus Rift, they will be able to parkour over zombies with full head tracking.

Speaking to PCGamesN, lead designer on Dying Light, Maciej Binkowski says:

“You can already plug in Oculus and play and it’s pretty good, we’re definitely going to support Dying Light when it releases.”

Would you like doing this in VR?

…it can induce and real sense of vertigo.

For now PCGamesN say that it already feels great. They say clambering up to high places feels “surprisingly natural but astonishingly nauseous.” They also noted how it can induce and real sense of vertigo. Another thing they liked is plummeting 150 feet feels pretty much as terrifying as how it feel would in real life, without the real death of course.

However, PCGamesN did critique the UI being “almost unreadable” at parts, and the camera not being perfect, but recon that it could be an interesting VR showpiece.

Techland still have some ways to go to get Dying Light fully compatible with Oculus Rift, they still need to work out the UI and how the camera works, among other things.

Techland has worked alongside Oculus for several months to get the game running as best it can. Binkowski says:

“I think it’s the absolute perfect game to experience in VR, I’m really looking forward to getting it, because it just feels really visceral.”

Not even Oculus are sure when the Rift is coming out, they recon they are close to a full release and are targeting sometime in 2015. Binkowski says:

“We don’t really know how long it’s going to take to release Oculus, and we release in January, But if they’re ready, we’re going to be ready.”

Dying Light is due out for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Oculus Rift support is only available on PC, but PS4 will see VR with Project Morpheus. So VR for the PS4 version of Dying Light is not out of the question.

Dying Light has a release date set for January 27th 2015 for North America, January 28th 2015 for Australia, January 30th 2015 for Europe and Japan.
