The Order: 1886 Won’t Feature Multiplayer, Runs at 30FPS

Developer Ready at Dawn prefers to focus on a quality single-player experience.

These days, a high-profile game without multiplayer is an anomaly.

That doesn’t faze Ready at Down, however, as they’ve confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Order: 1886, won’t have a multiplayer component. Studio founder Andrea Pessino made that plain on Twitter:

Some gamers were a little miffed at this, but Pessino explained that “it’s better to do one thing well than a whole bunch half-assed,” which definitely makes sense. The team is working to produce a single-player experience that everyone will enjoy, although it’s somewhat disappointing to learn that co-op is out.

For the technical side of the production, studio boss Ru Weerasuriya revealed (via GamingBolt) that while The Order will run at 1080p, it won’t hit that lofty 60 frames per second mark. The developer said they’re “not currently aiming for 60FPS,” as it’s more important for first-person shooters and fighters. Provided the game runs at a steady, smooth 30FPS, we probably won’t have an issue.

No multiplayer? No problem

With the multiplayer explosion last generation, developers really started to act like if a game didn’t have multiplayer, it would suck. Thankfully, we’re starting to see more productions from designers who realize that in fact, the entire world is not multiplayer-crazy. Don’t need it in ThiefinFamous: Second Son, or The Order: 1886. Fine by me.
