Heroes of Newerth Encourages You to Muster Up Your Map Making Mojo to Make Money
Heroes of Newerth, the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) known for its dark, gritty, and sometimes unforgiving gameplay, recently announced Sol's Theatre: a community-driven, $10 000 company-guided map making contest that will give Newerthians the opportunity to turn their map ideas into a reality.... preferably into a dark, gritty, and unforgiving reality.
Although I guess you could technically submit a candyland map full of fluffy bears, unicorns, and rainbows. Ugh.
Now those of you that have never heard about the game before, don't despair, there is still time for you to learn the ropes before the contest starts. Just click here, register and have fun. Or don't, who am I to tell you what to do, right?
But I digress. Aspiring cartographers of Newerth can start submitting their map ideas when the contest signup page, heroesofnewerth.com/threatre, goes live on the 1st of August at 12pm EST. The competition will run until 30th of August at 12pm EST. Information about prize distribution, map judgment and other contest details will be revealed by developers throughout July, so it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the forums too.
There can only be one
To coincide with the announcement of Sol´s Theatre, the Heroes of Newerth team also announced that the first community-made map? Prophets, has been implemented in-game and is now available to play.
Prophets is a free for all, skill-shot, battle royale with a dash of claustrophobia and hint of highlander. Each player controls a Prophet on a plane surrounded by an electric fence. There's no time to dawdle, as the fence gradually contracts until it reaches the map´s center - constantly zapping all prophets outside its perimeter. You know, just like in real life theological debates. Points are earned only by being the last surviving Prophet, so get your highlander mode on and repeat after me - "There can only be one."
Developers claim the map is awesome, so it's probably a good idea to take a look at it if you are aiming for the grand prize in the competition. If you like the map, be sure to send kudos to its creators, Heroes of Newerth enthusiasts Jonathan and Kawaiiiii.
