With all of the talk about the possibility of a sequel to The Last of Us, I’ve decided to put together this cosplay makeup tutorial based on the beloved character Ellie.
Step 1: Start off with a clean face.
Make sure that you’ve cleansed your face and moisturized. Moisturizing is important, because it will allow the makeup to go on smoother and ultimately look nicer. Then you want to prime your face, especially if you plan on wearing this makeup for a long time (perhaps at a con?).
Step 2: Foundation
It’s important to note that Ellie has a very round face, since she’s young. Start off with a foundation that matches your skin tone. Concentrate it to the center of your face. With a slightly darker foundation put it around the edge of your face. This with create a shadow that will make your features look smaller and your face look plumper.
Step 3: Ellie’s Scar
There are a few ways you can do this. I just used a white eyeliner pencil. Make a line down the center of your brow making sure to cover the brow hairs. If you have particularly stubborn brows you can cover the section with a glue stick or scar wax.
Step 4: Fill in Your Brows
Using a brown eyebrow pencil reshape your eyebrows. Keep in mind that Ellie has very squared off brows that are also very straight. Keep away from a high arch, that will only make you look older.
Step 5: The eyes
Using a warm copper toned eyeshadow put that all over your lid. Deepen the shadow with a dark brown shade on the outer corner of your eyes. Be sure to work the shadows into the upper and bottom lash line.
When it comes to eyeliner, stick to a brown liner because that will look the most natural. Keep the eyeliner on the outer third of your eye. This will make your eyes look larger.
Step 6: Contouring
Ellie’s nose is small and short. Contouring will depend on your own nose shape. For me, I used a brown shadow down the sides of my nose to make my nose appear slimmer.
Step 7: Freckles
Using a brown liner pencil create freckles all over your face, concentrating them mostly to your cheeks and nose. The trick here is to use a very light hand. Don’t be afraid to smudge them with your fingers, tapping gently.
Steph 8: Lips
Use a nude lip liner to reshape your lips Keep in mind that Ellie has a bigger bottom lip than her top, and her cupid’s bow is very defined. Dab on a bit of pink lipstick or blusher to your lips to give them a slightly pinkish hue.
Step 9: The finishing touches
Pop on a brown wig if you need to and add green colored contacts. You can get Ellie’s shirt either on the Naughty Dog store or on Redbubble. There are also tutorials on YouTube, if you wish to make her shirt yourself.
