Zelda: The Wind Waker HD has recently sold over 152,000 copies in North America just in its first week, which did a lot to boost relatively slow Wii U sales pretty much everywhere else. According to MCV, Wii U UK sales rose by more than 685% last week when Wind Waker HD launched. Yeah that is cray! Granted, on the scale of how much money Nintendo wants to milk you for that probably isn’t that much. But, hey, you have to take what you can get! The title also debuted at No.4 on the Chart-Track All-Formats Charts last week and is well on its way to Number 1.
Nintendo has no doubt been banking on Wind Waker HD to lift struggling Wii U sales, and they did sweeten the deal by pushing for the release of a Wii U Deluxe bundle that includes the game. There was also the release of a GameStop exclusive version packaged with a nifty Ganondorf figurine.

“We have long believed that software sells hardware and it’s great to see that reaffirmed this week with an uplift of Wii U hardware sales to coincide with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD,” said James Honeywell , Nintendo’s head of consumer marketing in the UK.
So there’s still some hope out there for the Wii U (maybe). Can one of Nintendo’s most enduring franchises save the Wii U?
