BUGS! Some of Gaming’s Epic Glitches

Glitches aren't always a bad thing

While surfing Kotaku recently, I came across what may be the best video game glitch of all time. While playing Assassin’s Creed 4, it appears as though a sinkhole appears, in the middle of the Ocean, and people are sucked out of the hole into heaven.

Pretty amazing right? I can only imagine what the guy playing was thinking about while this was going on.

Anyways, this got me thinking about some of the greatest glitches I’ve come across in my illustrious gaming career. Below follows (in no particular order) some of my favorite glitches of all time.

Pokemon Blue

Probably the most famous glitch of all time. MissingNo caused a lot of problems in your save file if you happened upon him. Of course, that didn’t stop anyone from going out of their way to find it. Gotta catch ’em all right? This glitch is more of an exploit then a “happenstance” glitch but it’s worth mentioning.

Fallout: New Vegas

With news of a new Fallout possibly on the horizon; the reminder of how underwhelming Fallout: New Vegas crept into my mind. Imagine the first thing you see when playing a game is a head rotating around in circles while talking. Possibly the creepiest glitch of all time.

FIFA 12

Enough creepiness. How about the sexiest glitch of all time? I’ve never been big into FIFA games but I do remember strange clipping when characters ran into one another. Apparently the clipping was due to the fact that they can’t keep their hands off one other.

Although the sexiest glitch may be rearranging the bathroom while your Sim is taking a shower… I made a judgement call here.

Saint’s Row

You’d be hard pressed to play any Saints Row game without running into some sort of glitch. The glitches (in my mind) actually add to the craziness and sandbox nature of the games. Whether you’re falling off the map while simply driving down the street or skydiving for infinity, Saints Row takes the cake for “Most Glitches Per Minute Played:”

Honorable mention here goes to The Sims, which has some strange glitches including deformed babies. Go ahead and google that. I’ll wait.

Skate 3

Skate was supposed to be a Tony Hawk Killer. While the TH series did eventually peter out, it wasn’t because Skate was an overwhelming success. Some wonky physics caused playing Skate to be more trouble than it was worth.

This fought Saint’s Row for “Most Glitches per Minute Played” but that would’ve required an ability to play the game.
