Xbox One Enters Into “Full Production” And Gets CPU Upgrade

Xbox's chief marketing officer, Yusuf Mehdi, confirms that the Xbox One is in 'full production' after getting a CPU upgrade.

Fans of Microsoft might be interested to know that Xbox’s chief marketing officer, Yusuf Mehdi, confirmed while speaking at the Citi Global Technology Conference that the Xbox One has entered into ‘full production’ after receiving a last-minute CPU upgrade and is set for a November 2013 launch date.

The CPU upgrade is an interesting move by Microsoft, seeing as the launch date is only two months from now, but might give the Xbox One a bit of an edge.

The console’s CPU (central processing unit) increased from about 1.6 GHz to 1.75 GHz, which is a sizable increase in terms of a console.  In fact, all the videos of various game play were produced with the 1.6 GHz processor and the gameplay already looked good, so a .15 GHz upgrade could make a noticeable difference.  I am not a super tech-savvy individual, but the processor boost is welcome news since gamers will be paying $499 for the Xbox One.

The news of the CPU boost follows last month’s announcement that the Xbox One’s GPU (graphics processing unit) has increased from 800 MHz to 853 MHz.  Which means that the Xbox One will trump the Xbox 360’s GPU by over 350 MHz.

Updated:  Now that the Xbox One has been out for nearly two weeks, I can honestly say that any improvements Microsoft made to the One have been done for the best.  I am not that tech-savvy but the Xbox One has plenty of power to run some exceptional software.  Microsoft needs to work on the Xbox Home for some tweaks but in terms of performance the Xbox One is impressive.

If you have not gotten a chance to, why not head over to my Xbox One review that I posted last week?

Does the news of upgraded technical specifications help Microsoft sway gamers towards the Xbox One?  Let me know what you think!
