Metal Gear Solid V: There is No Snake Without David Hayter Part 2

Jesus Christ, Window Shoppers

I started off kind of late with Metal Gear Solid. I didn’t get into the series until I played the Twin Snakes on the GameCube. That quickly became one of my favorite games. To this day, it is the game I have beaten the most times because it was just as good each and every time.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater came out a little while after that. Everything from the characters to the CQC to the crab eating to the theme song contributed to it joining the ranks of Twin Snakes in my all time favorite game list.

Not only were the games themselves an enjoyable experience, but Snake was such a fun character to imitate. The year that Skype allowed free calls within the US and Canada ended with a prank call session to Blockbusters all throughout California.

My friend would do an accurate Snake and ask clerks for information on Snake Eater. According to one clerk it was about fighting robots, one thought it was an FPS set in the Vietnam war, but one clerk recognized the voice and played along for about ten minutes.

Solid Friend: “How’s the store? Are there a lot of… people?”

Clerk: “Oh, a few people. They just seem to be window shoppers.”

Solid Friend: “Jesus Christ, window shoppers… They’ve got five-five-sixers and pineapples.”

“At least I had a good run.”

Snake is arguably one of the most memorable video game characters of all time. I cannot imagine him with any other voice. Snake would not be the same character with a different voice.

This a loss for all parties. Hayter said himself that he is not hurting for jobs, but that he would continue doing Snake forever if he could, for the love of the character. The fans are hurting because David Hayter is the only voice for Snake. Konami is going to be hurting from the loss of sales.

David Hayter could not handle this situation any better than he already is. He expresses his feelings without pointing fingers and causing a stir. He is taking his bow with somber elegance.

It’s not a true entry without Solid Snake or Naked Snake/Big Boss. There is no Snake without David Hayter. For this reason, MGS5 is not a real Metal Gear game.
