Nintendo Blocks Smash Bros. From EVO Stream

Nintendo is blocking all streaming from Smash Bros. Melee at this year's EVO tournament.

Why is Nintendo doing this? That is the question many of its fans are asking right now as the world’s biggest fighting game event, EVO, is on the horizon.  The reason they are asking this question is because Nintendo has announced that the mega popular Smash Bros. Melee will not be streamed live at EVO, in spite of its fans raising roughly $95,000 for breast cancer research and earning a spot as a featured game at the tournament.

An official representative from EVO released this statement:

Regrettably, we’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013.

This move by Nintendo to block the livestream may be tied to the fact that it has been toughing up its stance on the use of intellectual properties on popular mediums such as Youtube, Twitch,  and the many Let’s Play videos.  All is not lost though, as it seems that Nintendo is the only one that is imposing such restrictions since there have not been any other game companies at the event, like Warner Bros. and Capcom, to follow suit.

EVO 2013 is scheduled to start on Friday this week in Las Vegas. More information about EVO can be found by clicking here.
