Gatekeepers Assemble!

Another day, another Magic: The Gathering set release. The current set name is called Dragon Maze and seems to be really big on getting people to use multi-color decks. I’ve always been a fan of white red myself. Anways, a new set of creatures has been shown off today, called Gatekeepers.

Gatekeepers are relatively high mana cost creatures, each  having an ability that best embodies their color, and bestowing that ability on any multi-colored creatures you have in play. White gets vigilance, Blue gets flying, Green gets Trample, Red gets haste, and Black gives Deathtouch. For those of you unfamiliar with these effects, here’s a handy go to guide.

  • Vigilance– Creatures may attack without tapping
  • Flying– Creatures may only be blocked by other flying creatures, or creatures with Reach
  • Haste– Creatures may attack or use abilities the turn they are summoned
  • Trample– Creatures deal excess damage, if any, after combat to an opponent’s Life Total.
  • Deathtouch– After combat, any creature damage by a creature with deathtouch goes to the graveyard.

My personal favorite here is probably the White card, Maze Sentinel. It’s a great defender, and if you happen to be in a stalemate with your opponent then throwing vigilance on whatever multi-color creatures you have in play will really help you throw a little offense on your defense.
