As of today, Diablo III and Heroes of the Storm will give players new items, heroes, and more if they own or play both games

Good news Diablo III and Heroes of the Storm fans! Any player who owns Diablo III on PC or Mac will permanently receive the Heroes of the Storm character, Diablo, as of today! Any player who logs in to Heroes of the Storm after updating to the most recent patch will be granted free access to Diablo permanently, no strings attached. However, you must log into the game by 10 a.m. on September 8th or else you’ll miss out on this opportunity.

Also, just like the previous cross-game rewards for Warcraft and Hearthstone, Diablo III and Heroes of the Storm will be getting cross-game rewards in the near future.

As of the Season 4 patch, players will be able to get a free pennant and portrait border for their Diablo III profile and characters. In order to receive this reward Heroes of the Storm players must own both games, as well as achieve a player level of 12.

Also, players who own Diablo III can get the Maltheal’s Phantom mount for Heroes of the Storm by reaching level 70 with a Seasonal Hero in Season 4. Season 4 of Diablo III starts on August 28th.

These rewards – unlike the Diablo hero for Heroes of the Storm – are both retroactive and have no defined due date so there’s no rush. But then again, who wouldn’t want to ride into battle on Maltheal’s Phantom in Heroes of the Storm as soon as it is released? Get on it!

While I was not expecting anything extreme for a Heroes of the Storm reward, I will admit I am slightly disappointed. While the feature is unlikely to ever happen, I would have really liked the ability to port your own Nephelem from Diablo III to Heroes of the Storm. I know it would probably be the most annoying thing to program into the game – not to mention it would likely boost Heroes of the Storm’s installation size tenfold – but seeing Blizzard add these cross-game rewards certainly got my hopes up.

What about you readers? Will you grind your way to level 70 in patch 2.3.0 of Diablo III to get the Maltheal’s Phantom mount for Heroes of the Storm? How about playing enough matches of Heroes of the Storm to reach a player level of 12? Do you already have a high enough profile level, and are you excited to get these rewards?
