Rumor: Possible New “Tales of…” Game in the Works?

Namco Bandai is up to something in terms of a new "Tales of" game--are they heading down the Square Enix path?

There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight for the Tales of… series from Namco Bandai. In fact, last month they filed a trademark for a “Tales of Zestoria” in Japan and now another was spotted in the European market as “Tales of Zestiria.” While it is noted as “under examination,” these could be the inklings of the next game.

O and I are right next to each other on the keyboard, so it could be a matter of a typo, or perhaps they’re playing around with which spelling they prefer. Either way, it would not be wrong to think the two titles are one and the same.

However, this does bring me to a concern. We are all familiar with variations of the “Final Fantasy Syndrome,” where Square Enix cranks out one Final Fantasy after another, starting one up before the previous one has met the 50% mark. With its most recent game, Tales of Xillia, could the Tales of… franchise be heading in that direction?

Personally, I adore the series. Every Tales of… game I have played I enjoyed and I am hoping to get Tales of Graces F in the near future. So as long as the quality does not suffer, I suppose keep them rolling, Namco.

If you want to see the filing, head over to the Office for Harmonization in the Internet Market and search for “Tales of Zestiria.”
