Digimon Adventure Tri Anime to Release Alongside New Digivice Game

Digimon Adventure Tri: Reunion set for November release; new Digivice Game released to celebrate

The last time Digimon made any news, it involved a petition to stop Digimon Adventure Tri from releasing due to fans disliking the new character designs. This time, however, we have some happier news: Digimon Adventure Tri’s release date has been confirmed for the 21st of November, 2015. That’s not all. According to Bandai, they will be producing a new line of Digimon Digivice games that will use the new Digimon Adventure Tri digivice design while carrying over the original Digimon Digivice game.

The 1st Generation Digivice

For those who do not remember, the Digimon Digivice game was a popular toy that came out in the late 90s and early 00s. The game was reminiscent of a Tamagotchi in the sense that it had a virtual pet that you could feed and take care of, while also having its own features of linking to other Digivices to battle. The Digivice also used an internal pedometer to track the steps owners made, and when a certain number of steps were taken the game would enter various boss battles where players could digivolve their digimon and fight. While these toys were common in America during the heyday of Digimon‘s popularity, the toys have not seen an American release since the series’ fourth season. It is unknown if these toys will ever make an American release, however, they are currently available on Bandai’s japanese store found here.

As for Digimon Adventure Tri itself, the new trailer sports some familiar faces such as our returning Chosen Children (or Digidestined for American fans), as well as their partner digimon. Fans of the digimon series outside of America will also recognize the new cover of Koji Wada’s “Butter-Fly” theme.

The new character and Masaru presented side-by-side for comparison

The first movie in this new season of Digimon Adventure is known as “Reunion” and from the looks of the trailer it seems that the original cast has been separated due to various life events ranging from Mimi’s traveling to another country, Joe’s life as a university student, and the remaining cast being divided among high school and junior high school respectively. There are also three new faces in the trailer from the 0:56-1:02 mark. While these might be the characters introduced in Digimon adventure 02, it might also be brand new characters for the Digimon Adventure Tri series. Oddly enough, the character at the 0:56 mark looks a lot like Digimon Savers/Data Squad’s Masaru Daimon, however the role these characters have in the movie is still a mystery. Another feature in the trailer is that the enemy digimon appear to be breaking into the real world again, the battle scene at the end showing Kuwagamon jumping out of a portal to attack Greymon. While it’s unknown why the two are fighting in the first place, if the battle scene is any sign of how battles will play out in the full feature it seems like fans will be in for a real treat.

What do you think about the new Digimon Adventure Tri trailer? Does it still deserve to be brought down by petitions? Are there any fans of the original Digimon Digivice toy that might consider buying a new Digivice from Bandai for some old-school shake-to-win gaming?
