10 Sub Par Sequels that Dropped the Ball

1 of 12

While writing both of my posts on sequels (which were better than the original) I came to realize there are just as many sequels that were disappointments. As with the other sequel lists, I have tried to limit entrants to direct sequels otherwise I could go on for some time (some exceptions may apply). So let’s jump into this well of disappointment and dredge up some painful memories, eh?

Can't say I agree with Uncharted 2, The Walking Dead s02 or Bioshock Infinite but each to their own!

At you're civil about it mate. No reason we can't all just get along nicely with different opinions!

I wish you had hated on Bioshock Infinite a bit harder, but that is also like, my game to rag on.

I only have so much space per slide to hate! I need to ensure I spread the hate as equally as possible with Uncharted always getting a little extra.

Uncharted is like the summer blockbuster movies of games. It's a tent pole game, and it's...entertaining? There's not a lot of substance there, but I always have fun playing them. I can respect that you don't, of course.

What's your beef with Infinite anyway?

Not a bad list, but Uncharted 2 shouldn't be on this list, and your reason didn't really make sense.

    Why shouldn't it be here?

The story was rubbish with bad writing, thin characters, and unfulfilled potential for the interesting characters (Chloe). The gameplay went downhill and felt looser than before, which was already damned loose. The game lacks respect for the players. Hints are condescending, and the "puzzles" are insulting.

Let me put it simply then: Uncharted 2, on a fundamental level, could care less about your participation. It is designed in a way that there is absolutely no player agency, and no respect for the player's presence. You are about as passively included as an NPC in any other game. The game makes repeated efforts to be as easy and lacking in creativity as possible. It is, at best, a very pretty tech demo with a poorly written script that you only didn't realize was poorly written because they had good actors reading the lines. There isn't an actual substantial thing in Uncharted that hasn't been done a thousand times better somewhere else.
