The Dragon Quest (DQ) series began in 1986 when the first title was released for the Famicom console in Japan. The first DQ was then released in the US as Dragon Warrior in 1989. The JRPG series was influenced and inspired by RPGs such as Wizardry and Ultima.

The series has been known to feature lengthy story campaigns, plus a large array of monsters, characters and locales for players to experience.

Dragon Quest VII was originally released on the PlayStation in 2001. The game features a story where the hero and his comrades learn of the world’s past. The world in the past was much larger and featured many continents, and the protagonists are charged with fixing that past to improve the present.

To date, DQVII is recognized as the longest game to complete in the series. The game is also known to feature a large number of sidequests. Like most RPGs, it works on a class system to allow players to gain abilities. Players will also have the option to go to battle with monsters they can recruit.

JRPG and adventure fans can look forward to Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past September 16.
