How successful are we talking here? Consider this:

MLG has grown 636% over the past two years.

That is not a typo. Six hundred and thirty six percent. 334% of that growth happened this year alone.

2010’s brought 1.8 million unique viewers to Major League Gaming. This seems like a lot, but this number dwarfs in comparison to 2012’s 11.7 million unique viewers. That is a whole lot of people watching a whole lot of games.

The MLG’s sudden growth spurt is more than likely in part due to the constantly growing interest in League of Legends and its professional tournaments. That’s not to understate the popularity of other games played within the league. The Fall Championship featured Halo 4, StarCraft II, Mortal Kombat, League of Legends, Playstation All-Stars, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. All of these being popular games with active and interested fanbases.

Will the numbers continue to rise?

As more people become aware of professional eSports, the viewer numbers can only go up. MLG expects even more viewers for the 2013 season.
