In a strange yet natural pairing, Riot Games and HBO join forces to cross-promote League of Legends and Game of Thrones. HBO’s promotion for their hit series Game of Thrones kicked off March 22 and will continue until the show’s premiere on April 6.

[a]listdaily caught up with Dustin Beck, vice president of eSports and merchandising at Riot Games in an interview about this mashup – which all originated in a cold call from HBO.

We got a cold call from HBO because they thought that there was going to be a great overlap between our players and their demographic of people that watch Game of Thrones and this was a good way to explore reaching that demographic through new media. – Dustin Beck

Can you imagine going into the office and suddenly hearing HBO wants to talk to you? Maybe it’s different for those in the land of eSports, but I have to imagine that the phone call spawned whispers and happy dances around the Riot offices.

So, how is this going to work?

Beck explains that “…we’re also working with their team to produce a mash-up trailer. They’re giving us some exclusive sneak peaks into footage that hasn’t been seen before.”

A LoL AND GoT mashup? I’ve died and gone to heaven.

Ahem. So which Leage of Legends characters do you think will make it into this mashup video? Personally, I’d love to see a Daenerys vs. Shyvanna matcup.

The mother of dragons vs. a human/dragon hybrid? You know that would be epic.

Hopefully not all of these characters would be battling each other, I’d personally love to see a Catelyn Stark and Caitlin team-up (sorry for my terrible Paint skills).

Together, these women could surely defeat the evils of Westeros and Piltover – and prevent the Red Wedding from ever happening. *sob*

If the video ends up being less of a mash-up and more of a “Let’s cast League champions as Game of Thrones characters,” then I’ve still got you covered.

I think Lux, the sister of Garen, would be an excellent stand-in for Sansa.

They may not look a lot alike (how hard would it be to give Lux read hair?) but they’re both semi-royal characters that are still innocent at heart. They also both have strong older brothers – Garen for Lux and Robb Stark for Sansa.

There are so many League of Legends and Game of Thrones characters, that I could do this all day. So what character fights, team-ups or casting would you like to see? Post below in the comments!
