Metro: Last Light has recently been ported to Linux, which is why it is one of the best options to include in the bundle of the Steam Machines, as they will run the Linux-based operating system, SteamOS. 4A Games is said to be working on supportability of the Steam Controller. 4A Games Chief Technology Officer, Oles Shishkovstov, told Eurogamer

“We are excited by the prospect of bringing the ultimate Metro experience, powered by next-gen PC hardware into the living room…”

According to the description, out of the 300 lucky users 30 will be selected based on their previous community contributions and beta participation, while the remaining 270 will be selected randomly out of every qualifying user.

Steam Machine Prototype

The Steam Machines are slated for release at the beginning of 2014. After the beta has finished, users will be able to “build” their own machine, thanks to the many agreements Valve has with manufacturers such Nvidia, Intel, and AMD.

However, the very first prototypes will only bring Nvidia graphic cards, with the following specifications:

  • GPU: some units with NVidia Titan, some GTX780, some GTX760, and some GTX660
  • CPU: some boxes with Intel i7-4770, some i5-4570, and some i3
  • RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600 (CPU), 3GB GDDR5 (GPU)
  • Storage: 1TB/8GB Hybrid SSHD
  • Power Supply: Internal 450w 80Plus Gold
  • Dimensions: approx. 12 x 12.4 x 2.9 in high
