Crash Bandicoot: On the Run Jumps Onto Mobile Today
From his first outing on the PlayStation to his latest adventure on modern systems, Crash Bandicoot has run, jumped, and smashed his way through a number of worlds, dimensions, and, of course, harry situations. Now the marsupial mascot is heading to mobile iOS and Android devices in a new adventure, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run. The game is out now in the Google Play and Apple stores.
An endless runner in the vein of Bendy in Nightmare Run and Sonic Dash, On the Run is, unsurprisingly, full of "a variety of running challenges" that test fans' skills in a slightly different way than they have in Crash's previous outings.
As we reported when the game surfaced last year, fans can play as Crash and Coco as, according to Activision and developer King, they make "their way through mysterious lands, defeating the henchmen of Dr. Neo Cortex, who has dispatched iconic villains across the multiverse."
The linear levels are full of series staples, including boxes to destroy, fruit to pick up, Aku Aku masks to nab, and mini-bosses to send packing. Players swipe left and right to move between three lanes, swipe up and down to jump and slide, and tap the screen to spin. The graphics, soundtrack, and overall aesthetic are spot on and reminiscent of Crash decades-past.
There are five individual islands to explore, with various sub-sections to conquer, and King has added in some new features such as light base building.
I haven't played much of it, but it's been a fun little romp for Crash fans so far, even if you already have Crash 4 or the N. Sane Trilogy on your PC or console. It does have all of the trappings of a mobile title tacked onto it, such as multiple currencies, microtransactions, and ads to watch if you want to speed up progress, and it does throw a lot at you at once. But it's worth checking out if you want to kill a little time with your favorite goofy mascot. According to Google Play, 1 million players have already taken the plunge.
