Crysis 3: Sumptuous Video Announcing Beta Launch on 29 January

Crytek announces Crysis 3 beta release on 29 January with a new video showcasing the nanosuit and hinting at storyline elements.

A new video featuring the third instalment of Crytek’s flagship first-person shooter series showcases the storyline and technology of Crysis 3, particularly the nanosuit.

The premise of the game is expertly summarised by series regular, the coarse cockney SAS man, Michael ‘Psycho’ Sykes, who states, “It’s all about that suit now, makes you and invisible silent killing machine.”

The story arc suggested by the trailer has ‘Prophet’ as the main protagonist and his journey will see him learn to control the newest version of the trademark nanosuit to take on the forces of the invading alien Ceph.

However, there seems to be a suggestion that all is not right with the suit described as “the greatest tactical combat machine the world has ever known.” Perhaps that’s because Prophet was stupid enough to start using it when it’s clearly still in beta (it says so in his video, he should learn to read the fine print).

Aside from the story, the trailer also showcases the stunning CryEngine 3 visuals, which boasts technical wizardry described in this technical demo with phrases like “pixel accurate displacement mapping”, “dynamic water volume caustics” and, intriguingly “top secret tessellated toad tech”. I kid you not.

For your further visual delectation, the following video is the first of series of webisodes entitled The 7 Wonders of Crysis 3.
