Massive Eve Corporation Theft Sets New Record

$75,000 worth of Eve currency was stolen in the largest documented heist in Eve history.

I posted an article a week ago about the 2800+ man fleet battle that occurred in Eve Online. That battle made waves throughout Eve and the gaming press in general. The story even made it to the front page of reddit.com. You would think that Eve would be done making news–but no, she was just getting started.

Around the same time of the epic fleet battle, there was word on the street that X-Trading (the self proclaimed richest German corporation in the game) had been victim of a massive internal theft. After some research and walking the Eve news beat, it was confirmed that X-Trading had had 1.5 trillion ISK (the in game currency) stolen by a member of their corporation. To put that in perspective, that’s roughly equivalent to $75,000 US. This example of internet spaceships style white collar crime has set the record for the largest documented corporate theft in Eve history.

The crazy thing, and the reason I brought up the fleet battle, is that both events were caused by a simple mistake. With the battle, a single button mis-press started it all. With this heist, it was caused by a corp member being accidentally given permission to access and transfer corp assets. All this occurring within less than a week of each other. Man, I love Eve.
