Blizzard Explores Microtransactions in World of Warcraft

Blizzard planning on adding micro-transactions to World of Warcraft.

Blizzards community manager Zarhy posted a response afters players have discovered the Enduring Elixir of Wisdom, which gives players a 100% increase on experience gained by killing monsters and completing quests, on the game’s Public Test Realm (PTR). The reply he posted said,

“We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.”

Blizzard has made some items available as microtransactions on the Blizzard store before, which were to be donated to help Hurricane Sandy victims. And although this could make Blizzard more money, they might loose some respect from new fans since it would make it easier for other players to obtain items by just buying them instead of actually having to work for them.
