An Angry Birds movie: yeah, it’s a thing

Rovio announced this morning that John Cohen and David Maisel have signed on as producers for an Angry Birds movies set to release in 2016.

Rovio dropped the news today that an Angry Birds movie will actually happen under Despicable Me producer John Cohen and former Marvel Chairman David Maisel. Currently, the film is slated to release in the summer of 2016. Hopefully, the game will still have the social relevance then — I mean, if the world is still around.

In the press release, Cohen could not contain his personal excitement or the movie and future tax write-off:

“From both an entertainment and strategic perspective, Rovio is at the forefront of game innovation and is trailblazing terrific new ways for Angry Birds fans to interact with these characters. I’ve personally spent countless hours playing the Angry Birds games over the last few years, which I can now happily justify as research for the movie.”

The real question remains: Is there actually a plot to the Angry Birds franchise, and will the birds remain angry at the end of the film? I guess we will have to wait a few years to find that out.
