Bioware Confirms Shepard Lives In “Destroy” Ending, Some Grief Over The Rainbow Destiny Beam Assuaged

Shepard lives, but is it a little late to be digging her out the rubble?

Recently, Bioware’s Tulley Ackland bestowed some truly amazing news upon the heads of bitter – oops, I mean, grateful and loyal fans over at the BSN.

“You may notice that in the ‘Shepard lives’ ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.”

On the one hand, the rabid Mass Effect fangirl in me screamed with glee at the news. Finally, confirmation that Elaine Shepard and Garrus Vakarian would reunite outside the realm of fanfiction.

On the other? I’m actually a little angry, and so are a lot of other people. Why didn’t they say this sooner? Like, last year, after launching the Extended Cut DLC? Or after the Citadel DLC, when we ready to wrap up our adventures with Shepard forever.

Just, throwing the news we all desperately wanted to hear out on the forums seems a little…tactless.

Still, Shepard lives.

If you picked the red M&M, that is.

Are you still salty about the ending of Mass Effect 3? Is the wound still fresh and chafing, or has it scabbed over time?
