And there we have it! Ten times Deadpool couldn't have been any more Deadpooly in a video game if he tried. Somehow, I don't think he's trying all that hard.

\n

Now, it's time for everyone to get ready to go see the movie, if you haven't already. It's supposed to be fantastic. Even Betty White thinks so.

\n

\n

Okay... So I just wanted an excuse to drop a video of Betty White being awesome -- and I don't think Deadpool would mind.

\n

So, go enjoy the movie. Just remember... NO SPOILERS. We will come find you.

Everyone's favorite man-child superhero finally has the film his fans deserve – which may, or may not be saying a lot. Deadpool's first feature film officially comes out today, but people have taken advantage of advance screenings and the reviews are rolling in. For the most part, everyone seems to love it -- the only exception being those who had apparently never heard about Deadpool and his chimichanga fetish before they were asked to review the film.

\n

By all accounts, the new Deadpool movie is totally Deadpooly – and we're glad to hear that. Of course, Deadpool doesn't only appear in comic books and films. He's also made appearances in our media of choice – video games! As with his treatment in films, the quality of the games he's been in might be a tad questionable; but somehow the Merc with the Mouth's personality always manages to shine through.

\n

So, in celebration of the movie we've all been waiting for we've decided to highlight all those times this anti-hero managed to make things as weird as possible in all the video games he's appeared in.

Everybody's favorite trash talking mercenary will be slicing and dicing his way on to current-gen consoles November 17th.

A remastered version of Deadpool, the 2013 superhero hack n' slasher will include all the DLC, two extra levels and two alternative costumes for the hero. Activision, the games' developer, recently ported the game to Steam to garner more attention for the character and is likely trying to repeat this step.

Deadpool himself is building up a lot more popularity now that the trailer for his movie, staring Ryan Reynolds, is out.

Wade WIlson, a mercenary with a heart of gold and the mouth of a sailor, is diagnosed with terminal cancer. In order to live he agrees to be a part of a government experiment, which ends up saving his life. The treatment gives him super fast agility and healing but leaves him horribly disfigured. Wade, now Deadpool, battles crime for the highest bidder.

The Deadpool video game has a cohesive story and Nolan North voices the red and black hero. He keeps in tune with his signature traits of jokes and quick quips.

Deadpool comes to PS4 and Xbox One this Fall.

Honorable Mention: South Park: The Stick of Truth

It remains in the noble runner-up spot.

I love Deadpool. I love Deadpool and would have been happy just posting a video of the entirety of the game. That would defeat the purpose of making this a list of scenes, though, wouldn't it? Thus, I stuck to Deadpool's origins and picked a moment where he really breaks the fourth wall.

Marvel has plans for high-quality console games https://www.gameskinny.com/bd1aa/marvel-has-plans-for-high-quality-console-games https://www.gameskinny.com/bd1aa/marvel-has-plans-for-high-quality-console-games Wed, 15 Jul 2015 05:36:48 -0400 Curtis Dillon

At a San Diego Comic Con panel, Marvel Games Producer Mike Jones said more Marvel console games are coming, eventually.

A fan asked Jones about any new details on the console gaming front. The fan asked if Marvel are searching for new development partners, considering the company's licensing deal with Activision expired January last year. The two companies had been making games together since 1986, with Howard the Duck on the Commodore 64Jones confirmed that gears are turning on the console front:

"We are very much focused on what our console strategy will be for the future. Obviously console games take a lot longer to incubate, so that will be a slower process for us."

The latest Marvel console games have been with LEGO and Disney Infinity, which are not the AAA experiences fans desire. Marvel fans are clamoring for something akin to Batman: Arkham Knight. The last dedicated superhero game from Activision was The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a movie tie-in, and a poorly received one at that. Before that was Deadpool in 2013, which got fairly positive reviews but didn't blow anyone away.

Marvel, of course, is being quite prolific with mobile gaming these days, releasing 8 dedicated Android and iOS games in the past 2 years. Fans have been disappointed at the lack of development time given to studios working on console games, especially with the Amazing Spider-Man movie tie-ins that were rushed to coincide with the movie release. Activision also had a tendency to focus of Spidey more than any other hero - Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America all got little more than one-off awful movie tie-ins.

After years of mediocre Batman games, DC took a different approach to its most popular hero and gave the property to Rocksteady. They spent 3-4 years making Arkham Asylum. which spawned an iconic series and redefined superhero games. Thankfully it seems like Marvel are taking the same approach going forward:

"We are very much taking a controlled, less-is-more, quality-focused, developer-focused strategy, but it is very top of mind, and we'll have a lot more announcements probably next year."

The possibility of a truly great game featuring one (or more) of Marvel's heroes is an exciting one indeed. The good news is, we already know of one upcoming Marvel game that is being made by a very talented studio. We still don't know which character that game will be about, but expect more news in 2016. Until then, check out our list of Marvel heroes that deserve a great game!

Which Marvel character do you wanna see get a great game? Is it too much to ask for another Howard the Duck? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned to GameSkinny!

This video was originally leaked and was taken down. So the nice people at Blur Studio decided to officially release the test footage in HD for us all to see. Ryan Reynolds is the voice of Deadpool.

I hope this movie gets made.

Most can agree that anything done by Tim Schafer is a winner in any book. Brutal Legend is no exception. This third-person action-adventure game by Double Fine Productions and Electronic Arts for Xbox 360 and PS3; it's just plain fun.

\n

Tim Schafer was inspired to create the game from his own past musical experiences. The game features the character of Eddie Riggs, voiced by and modeled after Jack Black, a roadie who is transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers. Eddie becomes the world's savior, leading the humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar that can tap into the magical powers of the world, and a customizable hot rod.

\n

The game also features voices of real-life heavy metal musicians including Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford and other celebrities such as Tim Curry, as well as more than one hundred metal songs selected by Schafer for inclusion in the game. It's definitely worth playing for its humor and music love.

Team Fortress 2 is a team-based, multi-player FPS video game developed by Valve Corporation. It is a sequel to the original mod Team Fortress. It was first released as part of the video game compilation in The Orange Box for PC, Xbox 360, and then later on PS3.

Team Fortress 2 focuses around two opposing teams, Reliable Excavation & Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU) competing for a combat-based principal objective. These characters are hysterical in every way possible, which is why it makes it a must-play on my list. I'll only share a few.

\n
Characters and Classes:
\n
    \n
  • The Scout: a fast-talking, cocky, baseball fan and street runner from Boston, Massachusetts, who practiced running to "beat his maddog siblings to the fray."
  • \n
  • The Pyro: a mentally unstable pyromaniac of unknown origin or gender, completely clad in a fire-retardant suit and a voice-muffling gas mask.
  • \n
  • The Demoman: a black, one-eyed Scotsman who drinks heavily and hails from Ullapool, Scotland.
  • \n
  • The Heavy: a stereotypical Russian character originating from the USSR, heavy in both figure and accent. Obsessed and affectionate with his guns,  and he loves his enormous mini-gun that he affectionately refers to as "Sascha".
  • \n
  • The Medic: a German doctor from Stuttgart with little regard for the Hippocratic Oath, responsible for keeping his teammates alive. He keeps doves as pets, one of which is named Archimedes.
  • \n

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge is an adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. It was the second game of the Monkey Island series, following The Secret of Monkey Island.

\n

The game centers on the wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood. After defeating ghost pirate LeChuck in The Secret of Monkey Island, little is known of what happened between Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley. The sequel involves Guybrush's attempts to find the mysterious treasure of Big Whoop.

\n
Characters:
\n
    \n
  • Guybrush Threepwood: The protagonist, a "mighty pirate" and thrill-seeker
  • \n
  • Elaine Marley: Governess of Booty Island and Guybrush's love interest
  • \n
  • LeChuck: The antagonist, Guybrush's sworn enemy
  • \n
  • Largo LaGrande: LeChuck's old first mate whom Guybrush must overcome
  • \n
  • "Voodoo Lady": A mystical woman who assists Guybrush on his journey
  • \n
  • Wally B. Feed: An eccentric cartographer
  • \n
\n

A lot of the humor in this point-and-click adventure game are the lines, references, and music to many of the LucasArts films found throughout the entire game. They are well placed and in good fun.

I didn't know what to expect when I first heard about this game, but I'm glad I played it. Castle Crashers is a side-scrolling, beat 'em up game developed by The Behemoth and Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360, PC and PS3. The game is set in a fictional medieval universe in which a dark Wizard steals a mystical gem and captures several Princesses. Four Knights are charged by the King to rescue the Princesses, recover the jewel, and bring the Wizard to justice. Simple enough, right?

\n

This cartoon marvel is funny, and I mean it. The four Knights encounter several enemies along the way which include other Knights, multiple encounters with a cyclops, a giant "cat-fish," and alien invaders! You can also find animal companions for your character that assist you in battle, improve your character's attributes, or provide another special ability such as increased treasure earned from defeated foes. The game supports cooperative gameplay for up to four players, either locally or online.

\n

I highly recommend this game more than anything. The mini-games are just as fun. Don't let the cartoon look fool you though, since you are chopping off heads!

Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter game made by People Can Fly, Epic Games, and Electronic Arts for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The game is known for its sense of style and humor by rewarding players with points for performing increasingly insane and creative kills. Bulletstorm doesn't have competitive multi-player modes, but does have a cooperative online play as score attack modes.

\n

The game focuses on combat using firearms and melee attacks. There are various firearms available. The game places heavy emphasis on kicking enemies and using the energy leash. The game's unique features is the "skillshot" gameplay system. It rewards the player for killing opponents in the most creative and destructive ways possible. This can be from killing an enemy in mid-air, to pushing an enemy into a carnivorous plant, or executing an enemy after shooting him in the testicles.

\n

The more complicated or unusual the skillshot, the more points players acquire. The points are used to purchase weapons and upgrades. The weapons are unlocked at set points throughout the game, and after a weapon has been "re-armed" by purchasing it, a "charge shot" for the gun is unlocked at another set point. The humor is in the names the game comes up with for these skillshots and the lines said by the characters throughout the game.

Deadpool is an action comedy beat 'em up game based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The game is developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Former Deadpool comic writer Daniel Way (one of my favorites) created the game's plot, and Nolan North voices Deadpool. The game is true to Deadpool's humor and to the comic series.

\n

As Deadpool progresses, new combos become available. The 'M' rated game breaks the fourth wall, and Deadpool verbally interacts with the player based on skill and progress. Deadpool is armed with both guns and swords. He can also access giant hammers, plasma guns, and a range of other alternatives. A small number of teleportation moves are possible as well. As he slowly falls apart while sustaining damage, players must avoid further damage in order to recover.

\n

The humor in this game is nothing short of what we expect from Deadpool and you won't be disappointed in that regard.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is an outrageous, hysterical RPG by Obsidian Entertainment in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios and released by Ubisoft for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

\n

True to the American adult animated television series South Park: The Stick of Truth follows The New Kid, who has moved to into town and becomes involved in a role-play fantasy war involving humans, wizards, and elves, fighting for control of the all-powerful Stick of Truth. The game quickly escalates out of control, bringing them into conflict with aliens, Nazi zombies, and gnomes, threatening the entire town with destruction.

\n

The humans are led by Wizard King Cartman who make their home in the Kingdom of Kupa Keep (a makeshift camp built in Cartman's backyard). Among them are:

\n
    \n
  • Paladin Butters
  • \n
  • Thief Craig
  • \n
  • Cleric Token
  • \n
  • Clyde
  • \n
  • Tweek
  • \n
  • Kenny--who dresses as a princess
  • \n
\n

The humans' rivals are the Drow Elves, who live in the Elven Kingdom (Kyle's backyard) of King Kyle.

\n

Among them are:

\n
    \n
  • Warrior Stan
  • \n
  • Jimmy the Bard
  • \n
\n

The game also features all the classic South Park characters:

\n
    \n
  • Randy Marsh (Stan's father)
  • \n
  • Mr. Garrison
  • \n
  • Jesus
  • \n
  • Mr. Mackey
  • \n
  • Al Gore
  • \n
  • Mr. Slave
  • \n
  • Sentient turd Mr. Hankey
  • \n
  • Stan's Uncle Jimbo
  • \n
  • City Wok owner Tuong Lu Kim
  • \n
  • Terrance and Phillip
  • \n
  • Underpants Gnomes
  • \n
  • The Goth kids
  • \n
  • The Crab People
  • \n
  • Timmy
  • \n
  • Scott Malkinson
  • \n
  • Kevin Stoley
  • \n
\n

I promise this is a game for fans of South Park and doesn't leave any details of the show out. Everywhere are hidden memories from past episodes. This is NOT a game for kids. If you're looking to laugh your a$$ off, this is definitely the game for you.

The Portal series is a gem! Portal is a single-player first-person puzzle-platform video game developed by Valve Corporation. The game was released as a bundle package called The Orange Box for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Portal 2 is the sequel to the incredible Portal (2007) for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PS3 which allowed for co-op.

\n

The games are comprised of a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using the "Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device", a device that can create interspatial doorways between two flat planes. The player's character is named Chell, and she is challenged by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) to complete each puzzle in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, using the portal gun with the promise of cake and counseling when all is completed. The game's unique physics allow momentum to be retained through portals, requiring creative use of the portals to maneuver through the test chambers.

\n

In Portal 2, players take on the role of Chell once again in the single-player campaign, as one of two robots--Atlas or P-body--in the cooperative campaign, or as a simple humanoid icon in community-developed puzzles. The game includes a two-player cooperative mode. Both player-characters are robots that can control separate portal guns and can use each other's portal. The color scheme is different for each character. One is blue and purple, the other orange and red.

\n

These games are at the top of any gamer's list when it comes to hardcore fun. GLaDOS is a character all her own with every sarcastic remark that makes you want to scream "BI$#%!" The other characters in Portal 2 are just as funny and when in co-op mode playing as Atlas and P-Body is quite amusing. These are a must-play to any list!

What can I say about the Borderlands series? Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are truly fantastic games and are among my favorites just from the characters alone. Thank you 2K for Claptrap!

\n

Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are both action RPG first-person shooter games by 2K Games and Gearbox Software for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Each game centers around the player selecting one of four characters (Borderlands 2 gives us bonus characters) known as Vault Hunters, each having unique special skills and proficiencies with certain weapons.

\n
In Borderlands we meet:
\n
    \n
  • Mordecai the Hunter
  • \n
  • Roland the Soldier
  • \n
  • Lilith the Siren
  • \n
  • Brick (a Berserker)
  • \n
\n
In Borderlands 2 we meet:
\n
    \n
  • Axton the Commando
  • \n
  • Maya the Siren
  • \n
  • Salvador the Gunzerker
  • \n
  • Zer0 the Assassin
  • \n
  • Gaige the Mechromancer
  • \n
  • Kreig the Psycho
  • \n
\n

In Borderlands we meet characters we love (Dr. Zed, Mad Moxxi and Claptrap) and along with the old; meet some new ones in Borderlands 2--Tiny Tina is one of my favorites! The DLCs are fun, hysterical and tough. They don't make it easy for you, so be sure to bring along a friend or two.

10. Arkham City Catwoman

Yaya Han, the self-styled ambassador of cosplay and star of SyFy's the Heroes of Cosplay has several fantastically made costumes. She even sells cosplay accessories. But for me, her Arkham City Catwoman really is the whole package.

You can check out more of Yaya's work at her website, including a complete description of the process that went into crafting this costume.

Jessica Nigiri is a cosplay personality, and with 1.4 million followers on Facebook a presence that this list would be empty without. Her Mad Moxxi is spot on, and exactly what I'd expect from a real life Moxxi.

It was difficult to choose just one of Meagan Marie's fantastic cosplays. She's done an impeccable Daenerys from Game of Thrones, as well as steampunk Lara Croft.

\n

And did I mention that she's also a Crystal Dyanamics Community and Communciations Manager, and still finds time to make a lot of these costume pieces? Amazing. You can check out the rest of her work on her Facebook.

Anthony Misiano is probably one of the better known cosplayers on the list for his spot on Joker. As of 2013, he has been joined by his cosplay partner Alyssa. The two of them are known as Harley's Joker and Joker's Harley on Facebook

\n

Their cosplay skills are really quite amazing, down to the attention of detail in their costumes and the fantastic way that they handle their social media presence.

Cosplay (or costume play) is an exercise in fan-devotion. Creative and determined fans will work their hardest to recreate their favorite characters as close to the original as possible. While there are many levels of cosplay, and while they can range from near photo-recreation to imagining the content outside of its original source (burlesque Batman villains, for example) there are some examples that really rise above the rest.

Deadpool Silently Removed from Digital Distributors https://www.gameskinny.com/jg2yn/deadpool-silently-removed-from-digital-distributors https://www.gameskinny.com/jg2yn/deadpool-silently-removed-from-digital-distributors Wed, 01 Jan 2014 12:36:37 -0500 JohnHeatz

Thanks to NeoGAF user Delusibeta, it has been brought to our attention that Activision's Deadpool has mysteriously disappeared from Steam, PSN, and Xbox Live.

According to a tweet by Activision’s community manager, Dan Amrich, the game is officially gone for good, along with a rather lengthy list of victims of the same fate:

  • Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
  • Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
  • Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
  • Spider-Man: Edge of Time
  • X-Men: The Official Game
  • X-Men Destiny
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine

As you can see on that Facebook post mentioned in the tweet, this was actually announced on December 21st; however, it didn't get all the attention it needed.

If you are a PC gamer, you should look out for the very few remaining Steam codes via Amazon and Gamefly; but that’s about it, so if you want to have this game in your library, I suggest you go and get one of these codes as soon as possible before they run out.

Nothing has been said about retail copies, so you might still be able to get retail copies of these games. They may not be making additional copies of these games either.

Deadpool: Hilarious Dialogue, Fast and Simplistic Gameplay https://www.gameskinny.com/6b0eo/deadpool-hilarious-dialogue-fast-and-simplistic-gameplay https://www.gameskinny.com/6b0eo/deadpool-hilarious-dialogue-fast-and-simplistic-gameplay Thu, 07 Nov 2013 01:45:10 -0500 jackie keaton

The game "Deadpool" seemed to have gotten a lot of hype when the trailer was released, but was it all that it was hyped up to be?

Mostly.

Don't get me wrong, the game was worth buying and waiting for. I'm trying to say it needs some fixes, ones that would have my gameplay experience much better. I loved the game's dialogue, funny as hell, the actual gameplay itself felt like it should have been.

Reminded me of some the "Ninja Gaiden" game play.

Something's missing.

Now the fixes I'm talking about that would've really made my love for this game stronger would have to be more weapons and more maps, which I know would have cost more money to make, but still I wish for it.

Other then that, this game has it all.

Quick and smooth gameplay, some puzzles here and there. The off the cuff dialogue that this game delivers will make you laugh, snicker, and let out the occasional smile.

I really do recommend this game to anyone who loves Marvel, raunchy comedy, and bloody awesomeness.

Don't just take my word for it, go out and find out how much incredible fun you could be having.

Deadpool: The Merc With A Mouth https://www.gameskinny.com/mq83t/deadpool-the-merc-with-a-mouth https://www.gameskinny.com/mq83t/deadpool-the-merc-with-a-mouth Sun, 21 Jul 2013 20:47:44 -0400 Lui Galletto

Deadpool is an irreverent, unpredictable, over the top, chaotic, shenanigan-filled joy ride of a game. Developed by High Moon Studio, the game features the “Merc with a Mouth” as its star, as you kill everything in sight while chomping down on some oh so delicious tacos.

The game is self-referential and often breaks the 4th wall, addressing not only the player, but acknowledging the game as a game, and even talking with people who created it. Heck, you even have Deadpool (voiced by Nolan North) talking to Nolan North in a bizarrely meta conversation.

The game has one thing going for it, it is accurate to its source material. The game is like a Deadpool comic come to life, hitting all the right notes, and being just as ridiculous as his 2D counterpart. The humor is quirky and rude, but you will always get a chuckle out of the sheer insanity.

To say this game is merely a button masher would not be wrong, but it is more than the sum of its parts. For the most part, Deadpool is pretty linear, but manages to introduce some on-the-rail segments and secrets that break up the gameplay in a positive way. Everything is wacky and fun, but does not to actually forget to create a fun gameplay experience to go with the jokes.

You follow Deadpool over his shoulder, taking on waves of countless enemies, racking up combo and style kills to earn points to upgrade bad ass weaponry. The game has a nice feel to it, giving you a fun challenge, while still being enjoyable.

Weapons and guns all have a great balance, and kick major butt once they are fully upgraded. Enemies are pretty standard, but some particularly difficult ones are introduced in later levels that can really mess your day up if you do not take care of them first.

Some major issues are present, however. The over the shoulder camera often bugs out in close quarters, or will spin behind scenery randomly during fights, leaving you to fight blind for a few seconds as you try to wrestle it back into position. Although for the most part, enemies are predictable in their behavior, attack animations can break your combo and harm you even if they do no damage or even make contact.

With certain enemy attacks that cover a small area, the shock waves may hit you even if you are outside the radius, above the enemy, or even off-screen. Countering attacks may be unresponsive, letting you hammer the button in vain as you are swarmed.

But in the end, for all short comings, Deadpool has delivered a game that is sure to please not only fans of the comic series, but even gamers who have not even heard of him before. The action is fast and crazy, and the humor is ridiculous and fun.

(In no way shape or form do I have a guy in a skin-tight red suit standing over my shoulder as I type this).

Deadpool: Asinine, Redundant, Delightful https://www.gameskinny.com/ibkmo/deadpool-asinine-redundant-delightful https://www.gameskinny.com/ibkmo/deadpool-asinine-redundant-delightful Thu, 27 Jun 2013 13:32:19 -0400 Max Jay

Deadpool is an anomaly. It’s repetitive, has poor level design and has a very been-there-done-that feel to it. It also happens to be tremendously fun, and surprisingly addictive.

For those of you who don’t know: Deadpool is a comic book character from the Marvel Universe. Deadpool (A.K.A Wade Wilson) started out as a snarky mercenary who was eventually experimented on in order to obtain Wolverine’s healing ability. Unfortunately this also made him a schizophrenic lunatic with no filter. He knows he’s part of a comic, he talks to the reader and he says some pretty outlandish stuff.

Deadpool the game, from High Moon Studios, takes several pages from the comic when creating the character (see what I did there? Pages – comic? Get it? Okay let’s move on). He’s aware he’s part of a video game and that he is also in a comic. He has dialogue with studio executives from High Moon, and even his voice actor, the incomparable Nolan North. This is the most important part of the game.

Deadpool truly shines in the voice acting and complete lack of story. It’s really just about Deadpool being Deadpool. This is a true testament to Nolan North as a voice actor, and an artist. Every line out of his mouth is delivered with finesse and his comedic timing is spot on. North even does the voice of the other two personalities that live inside Deadpool’s head, with whom he talks to throughout the entire game. There comes a point in many successful careers where people will either cash-in on any project to make a buck and completely phone it in, or will take any roll out of desperation; this is not Nolan North. He is the character, and he kills this roll. This is why some of the other aspects of the game are so disappointing.

**I sure wish those environments looked bet-OHH bouncy castle!**

Presentation

Deadpool is no serious looker. Sure, it looks fine; it’s what we would call “serviceable.” Deadpool’s character model looks pretty good, and all of the secondary character models are okay, but there is a serious issue with the environments. They all look bland and flat, as though they could have been taken out of a game from much earlier in this console generation.

On top of this, the cliché environments like sewer, office building and weird jungle facility are all packed in here. I feel like this is a missed opportunity in that Deadpool’s character really should take note of this and crack a joke or two about it. Unfortunately the character really only mentions it in a line or two such as, “Okay, no more sewers High Moon,” when he’s nearing the end of the sewer level. I feel like they could have done a lot more with this and made it at least seem more intentional. Save for a brilliant 8-bit Zelda-type section everything is pretty predictable.

**There is a LOT of this.**

Gameplay

The gameplay in Deadpool is fairly straightforward. Take your average God of War or DMC and then dumb it down a little and loosen up the controls: Think of is as a DMC light.

The settings are redundant, and the bad guys are kind of all the same. It’s really just walk into a room, kill, rinse and repeat. The combat is the standard heavy attack, light attack and shoot affair, with a teleport button thrown in for good measure (more or less a dodge function). For some reason the teleport button is also the counter button, which functions much in the same way as the counter system in the Arkham games. A circle appears over the enemies’ head, you push circle and the enemy is no longer an issue. The caveat with this being that sometimes you’ll want to counter, and you’ll end up teleporting instead. You still avoid damage but it’s frustrating.

The gunplay in the game relies on a sort of crosshairs “snap”; if you’ve ever played Call of Duty you know what I mean. You’ll target the vicinity of an enemy and the crosshairs will more or less be magnetized to that specific bad guy. Most of the time this works fine, but every third time or so it either won’t snap or it will snap to the left of the enemy so you miss every shot. Again, not a deal breaker by itself, but obnoxious nonetheless.

There’s also an upgrade system for the character. Here you can unlock new weapons, new combos and new “momentum attacks,” which function much like finishers. It’s certainly nice to have some progression here, but the points used to purchase the upgrades are really simple to acquire, so it’s not much of a challenge.

I would have to say the worst part of the combat comes into play with the mini-boss style enemies. These enemies usually knock you off your feet with one hit, so the use of the gunplay is imperative. The problem here being all you have to do is kite the bad guy and essentially wear him down. It makes me wish there was a more comprehensive melee system that would allow me to dodge or counter without the use of the teleportation mechanic.

There are also some small platforming sections, which operate exactly as you would expect. I would have loved to see more implementation if the teleportation mechanic in the platforming instead of just mashing the jump button over and over.

The game isn’t all bad though. As flawed as the combat is, for some reason it’s still fun and I didn’t find myself getting overly frustrated or bored at any given moment.

**Thanks for saving this game Mr. North!**

Sound

Honestly the biggest draw to Deadpool is the many quips spewed forth by Mr. North throughout every combat sequence. They are rarely repeated, and always entertaining.

North delivers a grating, hilarious depiction of Deadpool, and that is exactly what the character should be. He’s sophomoric, dumb, foul-mouthed and misogynistic. Needless to say if you can’t take a joke - don’t play the game.

The script (or as Deadpool so often mentions in the game, the lack there of) is impeccable ad truly delivers the character we expected to see in the Wolverine Origins film from a few years back.

Just a disclaimer, this is not what you would call “smart” humor. If you’re looking for a Royal Tennenbaums brand of humor here you’re going to be disappointed – it’s really more of a Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. So if you love the poo jokes, there are plenty in here for you.

**If he weren't so busy with the damn pizza maybe we could have more stuff.**

Replay Value

Kind of none. Yeah, there are a few difficulties and you may have to play through a couple of times to max out all of the upgrades, but the game is kid of what-you-see-is-what-you-get. There are no collectables to speak of aside from tacos dropping all the time and little Deadpool coins so there aren’t any nooks and crannies to explore. I would have loved to see some alternate costumes or unlockable characters, but alas, there are none to mention.

Bottom Line

Deadpool is a game that relies nearly completely on the voice acting. The combat is functional but wonky, and the controls are imprecise. If it weren’t for Nolan North’s perfect improvisational timing and twisted insight to the character the game may actually be a total wash. Fortunately it’s not though.

I wouldn’t recommend going out and spending $60 on the game, as you’ll feel ripped off. But I absolutely recommend picking it up when it gets a $30 price cut in a few months. You’ll have a few good laughs and probably enjoy the game for what it is.

What did you think of the Deadpool game? Does it rely to heavily on the voice acting, or is it more than acceptable? Sound off in the comments down below and maybe I’ll take you with me to get experimented on so we can both lose our minds together!

Deadpool Review https://www.gameskinny.com/of68j/deadpool-review https://www.gameskinny.com/of68j/deadpool-review Thu, 27 Jun 2013 10:24:36 -0400 Alan Bradley

One of the lessons video games (and the Scary Movie franchise) is late to coming to is that it's not enough to just reference something; reference isn't parody, and by itself it's not entertaining. It's also not enough to point out the stale cliches of other games while repeating them themselves: this doesn't make them any more fun to play or acceptable. Deadpool illustrates these lessons over and over again in the most cringe-worthy ways, and then punctuates them with boring, repetitive gameplay.

That's not to say that there aren't some jokes that land. On average, about a quarter or so of the written dialogue and scenarios in Deadpool are genuinely funny or interesting. Unfortunately, the majority of the rest is tired, lame, or feels so throwaway and pointless we were left baffled as to why it was included at all. Maybe in some dark, grungy pocket of the earth there's an audience that still giggles every time the word "crotch" is uttered, but we're not it.

"Boredom: the desire for desires"

That said, if the action were crisp, entertaining, or in any way unique, a lot of the sub par dialogue and lackluster story could be forgiven (a story which, true to Deadpool's infamous fourth wall breaking shenanigans, involves the augmented mercenary raiding High Moon Studios to force them to make a game about him). Instead the action is bland and lifeless third-person combat we've seen done much better in countless other games.

Strapped on to the very vanilla combat is an upgrade system with which Deadpool can improve his weapons, or purchase new ones. The main problem with the upgrade system is that, almost universally, the best part about a new weapon is how it looks on the icon in the upgrade tree. Actually wielding the new weapons, like a shotgun or dual hammers, feels almost identical to using the default weapons, or in some cases actually less satisfying.

So much less fun than it looks

The levels are flat and boring, and the enemies you battle your way through are almost all indistinguishable from each other. The game also features a lock-on targeting system for the shooting that has the dual effect of making the shooting really easy and very boring, in that it doesn't require any skill whatsoever or challenge you on any level.

If either end of the package had been exceptional, if the writing had been consistently clever and amusing, or if the gameplay had been consistently fun, the whole could have been salvaged. Sadly, both end up falling well short of the requisite level of quality, and the final product is exceedingly tedious and grates on both nerves and patience.

Deadpool - My First Hour https://www.gameskinny.com/o2ls2/deadpool-my-first-hour https://www.gameskinny.com/o2ls2/deadpool-my-first-hour Tue, 25 Jun 2013 23:59:18 -0400 Smoky Grey

I picked up Deadpool this morning, hoping to have something to do tonight, and I have to say I was a little disappointed. I have played about an hour into the game, so I can't really say how good it is overall, but so far It is not my cup of tea.

I was always a fan of Deadpool since his first appearance in 1991; who wouldn't love a bat-crap crazy superhuman mercenary? But in my opinion, this new game just doesn't do the character justice. The story so far is pretty funny, in a juvenile sort of way. The voices in his head are probably the best part.

Gameplay

My real complaint so far is the gameplay. Deadpool is about as slow as you can get; he should be way faster than he is. The combat is not fluid at all; the combos have huge breaks in between hits. The shooting is also D quality at best. I am playing with a Xbox controller so it might just be the controller, but it seems very hard to aim. As a fan of the character Deadpool, I think the combat is offensive. He is way more bad-ass in the comics and they could have taken the time to do him justice.

The Story

What I have seen of the story so far is pretty funny, very mature stuff. One of my first actions in the game was to pump up an inflatable sex doll--that was a memorable opening. The voices in his head also do much for the narrative, giving you hints and little background tidbits. Deadpool also has a habit of breaking " the fourth wall" and talking directly to the player, which I really like. The whole plot centers around Deadpool kidnapping a High Moon Studio employee and making him make an awesome game about himself. The plot has kept me entertained enough to ignore the crappy fighting mechanics.

Overall

Like I said before, I am currently only an hour in and I am having fun with the game so far. I am really hoping that some of the upgrades I don't have yet will make him as bad-ass as Deadpool should be. All in all I would say this is worth a play through just to check out some of the humor for yourself.

Deadpool Bringing The Mayhem But Where's the Noise? https://www.gameskinny.com/0jrfh/deadpool-bringing-the-mayhem-but-wheres-the-noise https://www.gameskinny.com/0jrfh/deadpool-bringing-the-mayhem-but-wheres-the-noise Mon, 24 Jun 2013 19:47:13 -0400 Aneudys Tejeda

Deadpool is looking fantastic, but where is the hype?

Deadpool is known as being the "merc with the mouth". He's one of Marvels anti-heroes and really breaks away from the usual Marvel comic book characters. Deadpool breaks the fourth wall, looking at and speaking to the reader. He cracks inappropriate jokes and can't be killed due to his regenerative abilities. He's an ace assassin, a master with guns and a skillful swordsman.

Deadpool comics have had some serious moments, but for the most part it's all about the psychotic weirdness of the world and the character. Now that he is getting his own game, this sounds like it could be just as crazy and over the top as say Bayonetta or Devil May CryBut why doesn't it seem like this game is getting any attention?

It has such great potential!

Deadpool is being made by High Moon Studios, whose previous games include the critically acclaimed Transformers: War for Cybertron, and Fall of Cybertron. Much like Rocksteady reinvented Batman with the Arkham series, High Moon accomplished the same with Transformers. This is a proven studio with a talented team behind it.

Activision being the publisher however, doesn't seem to be so on board with this game. Marketing is looking very scarce. For example, you probably didn't even know the game was coming out June 25th. Deadpool has had little to borderline zero advertising on TV. Activision may have its hands full with the new, Call of Duty: Ghost, to really give this game the attention it needs. On the other hand Deadpool will be coming out at $49.99, making it a bargain launch price to hopefully catch the eye of some customers.

A beautiful world and an interesting cast.

Aesthetically the game took a unique route going with a light cel shaded, almost watercolor, kind of look with the game to keep with its comic book roots. The trailers shown have the comic book word bubbles popping up showing Deadpools thoughts as well as words like "Bang" and "Pow". As seen in the trailer above the comedy will be abundant as well.

The voice of Deadpool may not sound too familiar, but it is actually the very popular Nolan North of Uncharted fame, who is the most notable voice actor in the game. As for actual characters in the game, people may not recognize anyone beyond Wolverine, which isn't a bad thing. As people dig into the Avengers craze it's going to be good to give lesser known characters the spotlight. For example, Domino, Rouge, and my personal favorite, Cable, will be making an appearance in the game.

You may be surprised with what you get.

Though the game may not be on everyone's radar this could very well be a sleeper hit of the summer. Much like Transformers and Arkham Asylum this may not have fantastic sales from the start but it could always build up steam with a cult following. Expect Deadpool on your store shelves June 25th on 360, PS3, and PC.

Deadpool Gameplay Launch Trailer https://www.gameskinny.com/9bbq2/deadpool-gameplay-launch-trailer https://www.gameskinny.com/9bbq2/deadpool-gameplay-launch-trailer Mon, 24 Jun 2013 20:06:53 -0400 Brighton Early

Deadpool! Bang! Babes! Mayhem! These are the elements that make a great launch trailer for a lovely story about Deadpool. Nolan North will be doing the voice of Deadpool as he has done before in other media. The developers from High Moon Studios worked with former Deadpool writer Daniel Way to pen down the script. The storyline begins with Deadpool accepting a mission to assassinate Chance White, when Mister Sinister shows up to ruin the day and costing Deadpool money.

As Deadpool seeks out his revenge on Mister Sinister, he encounters other Marvel characters like Domino, Wolverine, Cable, Death, Rogue, and Psylocke. As a third-person action game, Deadpool will gain new combos as he progresses. A combination of melee and shooting, Deadpool will use big hammers, sai, swords, guns, and laser guns. The game will rely heavily on dismemberment and decapitations as body parts and bloodstains fly everywhere. With the amazing accelerated healing factor as Deadpool's super-power, you can decide to either reattach severed limbs or wait for them to regrow.

Deadpool will be released for just the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 25th. Published by Activision, Deadpool will come out on Steam for the PC (we just don't know when yet). With all this chaos, I can't wait for Deadpool to make comments about girls rear-ends and shoot people in the face at point-blank range!

X-Men's Rogue Joins Deadpool Game https://www.gameskinny.com/6el25/x-mens-rogue-joins-deadpool-game https://www.gameskinny.com/6el25/x-mens-rogue-joins-deadpool-game Wed, 19 Jun 2013 13:19:53 -0400 Capt. Eliza Creststeel

As the release date of High Noon and Marvel's Deadpool game grows closer, they added something to sweeten the pie. Or rather sweeten the tea, in the white-haired form of a familiar Southern belle.

Rogue joins the cast of guest stars who will be fighting alongside (or against) the Merc with a Mouth when the game is released on June 25th.

Rogue appears to have had a makeover, including a variation on her green outfit and a short haircut, instead of her brunette mane.

It's not indicated how Rogue will interact with Deadpool in the game, though Marvel's announcement did mention her mutant ability to absorbs powers, skills and even memories. Wade ponders the idea of them coming into 'contact'.

She joins a Who's-Who of Marvel characters in the cast, including the likes of Wolverine, Cable, and Domino who will have her first ever video game appearance.

Mister Sinister and his Marauders seem to be the game's main adversaries.

Deadpool is unleashed June 25th.

Marvel Comic's violently wise-cracking, loud-mouth, psychotic anti-hero who often talked directly to his readers is about to start talking to you as part of this own edgy, out-of-control and darkly funny as Hell video game from Activision and High Noon Studios.

Some of Marvel's big names will join Wade Wilson in his brutal adventures. Names like Cable, Domino, Psylocke, Mister Sinister, Vertigo, and many more will be fighting side-by-side or toe-to-toe with Deadpool

Mature Audiences Only? Define Mature.

Be WARNED!

This NOT a kid's game. Bad language. Graphic violence. General insanity.

But, this is a full on action game. Fight villains, annoy allies and cause mayhem on a grand scale with flashing katanas, an arsenal of firearms and explosives and DP's wicked charisma.

The graphics look great. There is a lot of detail in the gameplay animation and very creative movements and styles of combat for Deadpool to pull off various attacks.

Wade's potty mouthed sense of humor is in full force as well; from countless wisecracks in combat to off-the-wall cut scenes, this game will have you giggling. I admit I'm guilty of snickering while listening to the banter, just from the gameplay videos with all his snarky comments. I felt like a kid listening to their Dad's Richard Pryor album in the basement.

Too Dumb or Too Smart?

Deadpool definitely has his place in the Marvel Universe. Whether it's the cutting edge, self-mockery of comics or the breaking of the fourth wall, The Merc with a Mouth confronts a lot of what is stereotyped in comic books by amp'ing up those elements and reveling in them all with a knowing wink.

So, you've been put on notice gang. Don't come back to the Amazon saying you didn't know what you were getting into. Just like that old Richard Pryor album, this game may end up tucked in many a drawer until the little ones are safely in bed.

Can't wait until June 25th? Take a peek now at some Deadpool madness at http://www.deadpoolgame.com
