Dancing Elites
\n

I'm not sure that this is the classic dancing Elite glitch, but this clip from Halo 5 is too good not to share. This is another one that puzzles me. I can't really explain what's happening here and I don't think I can dismiss this one as a lag issue. Whatever the cause of this glitch is, I think it's fantastic. I also laughed harder than I should have when he got stomped out at the end of the clip.

\n

---

\n

And with that, I conclude my list of 9 Halo glitches that you can't help but laugh at. Some are scarier than others, but at the end of the day, they're all pretty hilarious, no matter who they happen to.

Know of any even funnier Halo glitches? Let us know about them in the comments below!

Undead Scarab
\n

This is another one that is half-terrifying and half-funny to me. On the one hand, there's something about seeing a blown-up Scarab come back to life that is somewhat nightmarish. But on the other hand, seeing one hobbling around on two legs is laugh-inducing in a weird kind of way. (It counts as a laugh if you're laughing out of disbelief, right?)

\n

Anyway, if you play Halo 3 and want to experience this glitch for yourself, check out this tutorial below. If you just want to see footage of the Undead Scarab in action, skip to 4:34 and decide for yourself if it's funny or scary.

Quicksand
\n

As seen in this image from Nostromo II on Bungie, this unfortunate glitch in Halo 3 caused unsuspecting players to be sucked right into the floor and die a twitchy, painful-looking death with no warning at all. I'm not entirely sure what causes this to happen, but I'm assuming it's the result of lagging. There's a part of me that doesn't want to laugh because it's kind of terrifying, but there's also something about it that's really funny.

Wall Hacking
\n

Also called "Ghost hacking," but I suppose that in this case, it might be more appropriate to call it "Phantom hacking." Basically what happens here is that if you're moving fast enough, you can go through walls because the game will not register the wall in time.

\n

This case is exceptionally strange to me because it is my understanding that once you pass through the wall, you die. In a strange turn of events, it looks like this driver somehow managed to go right through the wall and off the map.

Corpse Glitch
\n

Glitches with corpses are one of the more common ones in most of the Halo games. Most of us have seen videos of breakdancing corpse in Halo. This one is another Halo: Reach beta glitch where the corpse inexplicably starts waving just his arm. While some of the other corpse glitches are kind of creepy with all the spasms, this one is oddly friendly, as if the corpse is waving at you ... welcoming you to Hell ...

Character Stretch Glitch
\n

One of my personal favorites is a fairly common glitch that occurs in almost all the Halo games -- the character stretch glitch. It's so common we could make a list by itself of all the best character stretch images on the internet.

While there are definitely some more extreme instances of this glitch (such as the first image of this slideshow), there's something about this screenshot from Cheese Chex on Bungie that I find so hilarious. This Spartan looks like some weird, disfigured bird ... or something.

Weaponless Glitch
\n

This glitch occurs in almost all the Halo games, usually as a result of overloading the map with too many objects. This specific image comes from an individual who was wielding a hammer in Forge World for Halo: Reach. Then he went weaponless.

While it is one of the more common glitches, I’ll never stop thinking it’s funny seeing someone holding a phantom weapon. There's something about a weaponless Spartan that just looks ridiculous. These guys were meant to be soldiers.

Banshee Glitch
\n

Banshees have been known to do what they want at times, resulting in a lot of Banshee glitches in the Halo series. I'm not exactly sure what caused this one, but, like many of the glitches in Halo, I'm going to chalk this one up to some sort of lag. Somehow I feel like there's something oddly soothing about giggling at a Banshee floating around like a broken bumper car.

Armor Permutation Glitch
\n

In the Halo Reach beta, some users reported severe armor lag that caused armor permutations to change. These instances usually occurred upon death, but in rare cases, it happened to players while alive. This perfectly timed screenshot, courtesy of Halo Wikia, features an individual who looks horrified at what is happening. Or maybe just embarrassed about their pauldron being on the wrong side.

Over the years, the Halo games have brought joy to so many lives all over the world. We all know it, and I would argue that most of us love it. As far as first-person shooters go, it's definitely one of the best and most widely played.

And although most of us play Halo for its competitive nature, another highly entertaining aspect of the game is the occasional glitch you'll run into. While they can be really annoying when you're in the middle of a campaign or a game of CTF, they can be extremely funny when it's not happening to you -- and sometimes they're even so hilarious it doesn't matter who they happen to.

\n

So to celebrate Halo franchise as a whole (and for me, the upcoming ESL Halo Pro League summer season!), here's a compilation of some great glitches throughout Halo history.

All around the world, Halo teams fought through the qualifiers for a chance to be part of the ESL Halo World Championship 2017 Finals. The 12 teams who made the cut met at the ESL campus in Burbank, California, for three days of intense competition. The aim? To find out who would emerge with $1,000,000 and the title of Halo World Champions.

All 12 Teams Come Out Strong for Day 1 of Finals

In the first day of competition at Finals, teams fought for seeding points heading into the double elimination bracket. Though no one would be eliminated, Day 1 was a chance for each team to start the weekend strong and set the tone for the rest of Finals. As many predicted, the North American teams dominated the rest of the world to kick off an exciting first day, with OpTic Gaming and Team Liquid leading the pack in the winners bracket.

Str8 Rippin vs. TMMT Crowd Pleasers

In an incredible end to Day 1, Str8 Rippin and TMMT Crowd Pleasers met in the final losers bracket match of the day in a heated Best of 7 series. Str8 won the first three games of the series, taking the third win in CTF after APG landed a ground pound with less than 10 seconds left on the clock.

CP retaliated with three straight wins in an attempt to execute a reverse sweep and signaled a choke after the third win. The crowd was going wild heading into Game 7, and the room completely divided. With the series tied 3-3, Str8 managed to stave off CP and take the final win of the series on Regret Slayer and move on to the winners bracket.

Str8 Rippin wins 4-3.

Everything Heats Up for the Second Day of Finals

At the end of Day 2, only four teams would move on to the final day of competition. Despite an impressive performance from Fab Games esports, the last European team went home midday.

EnVy vs. Luminosity Gaming

After taking a harsh loss to Splyce that landed them in the losers bracket, EnVy began an incredible winning streak all through Day 2. Everyone on the EnVy roster was playing at a high level, making great call-outs and executing clutch plays as they unapologetically eliminated team after team. In their last series of the day, EnVy continued their reign of terror against Luminosity Gaming.

It was in this series where Huke had what was arguably the greatest play of the whole championship. He flawlessly executed a vicious Killing Frenzy with the Needler in Game 2 on Rig Slayer, before Snip3down took a carefully aimed headshot to secure their second win of what ultimately became a 4-0 sweep to send Luminosity home.

EnVy wins 4-0.

Team Liquid vs. OpTic Gaming

The last series of the day was between Team Liquid and OpTic Gaming. Liquid, even after coming out of NA Qualifiers in second place, was considered an underdog heading into Finals. The months-old roster, who had never won a tournament together, were proving their doubters wrong with every winners bracket match they won. In the final winners bracket of the match, they faced OpTic to enter the final winners bracket match of Day 3.

OpTic were dominant heading into the series against Liquid by winning their first three games. They were looking to continue their winning streak in Game 3 on Truth CTF. Liquid fought hard and won their first game of the series with a clutch ground pound from Rayne to bring the score to 3-1.

However, the last effort push was not enough to stop OpTic from more than doubling Liquid’s points on Empire Strongholds, ultimately to end Game 4 with a score of 100-44 -- to secure their spot in the Grand Finals match.

OpTic Gaming wins 4-1.

By the end of Day 2, OpTic Gaming, Team Liquid, Team EnVy, and Str8 Rippin would be the last four teams to see Day 3 of Finals.

OpTic Looks to Take it All in Day 3

Day three of the ESL Halo World Championship Finals 2017 was arguably the wildest day of the tournament. Let's take a quick look at some of the highlights.

EnVy vs. Str8 Rippin

EnVy and Str8 met in first the losers bracket matchup of Day 3. EnVy had battled through the losers bracket and was on a 12-game winning streak going into their series against Str8, who had come back from a 4-0 loss against Liquid to eliminate Splyce from the tournament. If Str8 won the series against EnVy, they would be able to get their revenge on Liquid in the final losers bracket match of Finals. However, EnVy was not about to let that happen.

Maintaining their momentum from Day 2, EnVy won two close games against Str8 before securing an amazing 100-36 win to bring the series to 3-0. Str8 looked like they might come back when they capped their first two flags within the first minutes of Game 4 on Truth CTF, but EnVy came back after Huke and Mikwen both got Overkills and capped three flags in a row to eliminate Str8 and move onto the second losers bracket match.

EnVy wins 4-0.

EnVy vs. OpTic Gaming

Despite Liquid ending their winning streak, EnVy looked to continue their aggressive offensive campaign against the 2016 World Champions. However, OpTic was not about to let the EnVy take the win so easily. Tensions ran high, both sides were on vicious killing streaks as they both attempted to break a 2-2 tie in Game 1 on Coliseum CTF before the game went into overtime. Frosty capped the flag for OpTic in the first minute of OT to take the first win of the series. In Game 2 on Plaza Slayer, OpTic took a slim lead in the last two minutes to secure their second win in a row against the Fall 2016 Champions.

After taking two losses in a row against OpTic, EnVy started Game 3 by taking the lead on Rig Strongholds. EnVy had picked up a 48-0 lead before OpTic nearly stopped EnVy in their tracks and took the game 100-63. In CTF in Game 4, OpTic was ready to take the whole series home, capping one flag. But it took all their offensive energy to suppress a full-court press from EnVy. In a fast paced game, OpTic focused everything on keeping EnVy from regrouping as they played every second of the clock, not even realizing they had won until the room exploded with cheers when the last seconds ran off the clock.

OpTic Gaming wins 4-0.

After their amazing journey throughout the Halo World Championship 2017, OpTic Gaming came out yet again as World Champions and proving that they are this year’s greatest Halo team in the world.

Before the champions took their trophy home and got some well-deserved rest, I was able to ask Lethul a few questions in an interview that was originally published on the ESL website

Here's to next year!

After an intense series of qualifiers all over the world, the top 12 Halo teams in the world will meet in Burbank, California at the ESL campus to fight for undisputed Halo supremacy. As well as a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.

The final lineup for the ESL Halo World Championship Pro League Series is as follows:

North America

  • OpTic Gaming
  • Team EnVyUs
  • Team Liquid
  • Str8 Rippin
  • TMMT Crowd Pleasers (Formerly Pnda Gaming)
  • Luminosity Gaming
  • Splyce

Europe

  • Fab Games eSports
  • Supremacy
  • London Conspiracy

Australia

  • Team Immunity

Latin America

  • SoaR Gaming (Formerly Shock The World)
Group A: TMMT Crowd Pleasers, Supremacy, OpTic Gaming

Obviously, OpTic Gaming has been looking sharp throughout the qualifiers, after finishing in first at the Las Vegas Qualifiers and is favored by many to place high. However, the rest of Group A shouldn’t be brushed off. Many did not see TMMT finishing in the top 6 for NA, the addition of Danoxide to the roster plus a solid performance in Las Vegas earned them a spot at finals. I’m personally very interested in seeing TMMT’s performance at Finals after watching them play through the Las Vegas Qualifier. Supremacy shouldn’t be counted out just yet either. After adding Solar to their lineup, the French team beat out many favored U.K. teams to qualify for Finals.

Group B: London Conspiracy, Team Liquid, Luminosity Gaming

London Conspiracy returned to the Halo Scene with a vengeance after acquiring the Team Vibe roster. LC was beat out of the EU bracket at the hands of Sy, but after their performance at the EU Last Chance Qualifier, it’ll be interesting to see how they compete against some of the top NA teams, especially in their match against OpTic. In addition, new Liquid roster asserted themselves as a dangerous opponent against OpTic during the qualifiers, and anyone who doubted the new Liquid roster after the St. Louis Qualifiers definitely saw the potency in this new lineup after they secured their second place win at Las Vegas. Finally, like Liquid, LG did not perform their best at St. Louis, but returned to Las Vegas with an aggressive performance that earned them their place at Finals. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what Group B does at Finals.

Group C: Splyce, Team Immunity, Team EnVyUs

Splyce was very close to qualifying for Worlds before Luminosity eliminated them at Las Vegas Qualifiers. They managed to come back and become the final NA team to head to Finals after winning the Last Chance Qualifier by taking out CryptiK in a second BO7. It’ll be exciting to see how the young roster performs against EnVyUs, the Fall 2016 champions, in the first match on the main stream. Pistola of EnVyUs had an absolutely deadly performance at Las Vegas, and I’m personally going to be keeping my eyes on his feed at Finals. The Australian team iM will also have their first match against EnVyUs, and after iM’s total domination at the ANZ Qualifier, I’m anticipating a solid performance from the Australian team against the top ranking NA team.

Group D: SoaR Gaming, FAB Games Esports, Str8 Rippin

SoaR asserted themselves as the top Latin American team at Mexico City Qualifiers, but many are doubting the roster’s ability to stack up against the top EU and NA teams. After SoaR’s performance at the LA Qualifiers, I think they’ll put up a fight against the German team, FabE, in their first match at Finals. FabE also struggling against the notion that EU teams aren’t a competition for the top NA teams in Halo, but after their first place win at London Qualifiers, I see FabE putting on a great show to prove those stereotypes wrong. I’m anticipating a great match between FabE and Str8 after the NA team’s tenacious performance in the NA Qualifiers where Str8 came back from the losers bracket in Las Vegas to make it to Finals.

Who are you rooting for? Do you mind that global teams are allowed in the finals? Let us know in the comments below!

Halo 5 developers 343 Industries have offered another sneak peak of the upcoming update “Warzone Firefight,” which they call their biggest release yet. Alongside new armor, weapons, and vehicles like the Temple Banshee, the update includes the new multiplayer map "Prospect" and an entire new canvas to build on called "Forge". Previously announced features to the update include:

  • Improved Warzone Firefight PvE mode
  • Warzone Boss Refresh
  • Campaign Score Attack
  • Updates to Warzone personal scoring
  • Series 1 of the HCS weapon skins

The sneak peak includes a glimpse at the new Temple Banshee vehicle.

Additionally, the new Prospect map is set in a mining facility where players must use the secrets of the terrain, like trenches and flank paths, to attack those inside the facility. Defending the Core involves even more options on Prospect, like opening the gates in order to utilize vehicles, or focusing on power weapons.

More details on the release will follow next week. "Warzone Firefight" is expected to drop at the end of June.

Halo 5: Pro-League and Podcast announcements https://www.gameskinny.com/wkihi/halo-5-pro-league-and-podcast-announcements https://www.gameskinny.com/wkihi/halo-5-pro-league-and-podcast-announcements Sun, 12 Jun 2016 09:36:58 -0400 Melissa Crawford

For those who aren't aware of what's going on in the Halo scene, it may be wise to catch up on the various updates before E3. The updates we're talking about concern the HCS Halo Invitational, Warzone Firefight skin-packs, and HCS podcasts!

Before heading to E3 in less than a week, Andy "Bravo" Dudynsky (@Brav on Twitter), a community manager for 343 Industries, decided to give the low-down on a few tidbits of news concerning the Halo 5 competitive scene for the HCS Halo Invitational. That is the high-tier competitive play, for all the non-MLG savvy out there. The first piece of data, for those who may have missed the news, was the 3-0 win of the Online Warriors team versus the Xmen in Europe, and the Team EnVyUs over Allegiance.

If that isn’t enough information for you, then here are some simple charts showing the basic statistics for the competitive teams (collected as of June 3rd, 2016).

For those whose favorite team may not be doing quite as well as you had hoped, take comfort in the fact that you may be graced with some skin-packs courtesy of Counter Logic Gaming, Evil Geniuses, and OpTic Gaming. The skins will be available for the Magnum and Assault Rifle weapons, as well as an emblem. Look for these skins around the same time of the Warzone Firefight release.

Also, if you aren’t getting quite enough of the HCS in your life, then fret not and check in to the “HCS Listen In” podcast that will be debuting within a week or so. The podcast will help you to get caught up on key match-ups, player history, opinions, and even more from experts and personalities such as Strongside, Tashi, and Dersky, as well as special guests including Pro League players. The first episode will air on June 8th, and the team is open to questions. Just tweet @HCS with the hashtag #HCSListenIn.

Xbox One Cuts Price to $299 https://www.gameskinny.com/qikam/xbox-one-cuts-price-to-299 https://www.gameskinny.com/qikam/xbox-one-cuts-price-to-299 Tue, 31 May 2016 09:17:15 -0400 JunaeBenne

The Xbox One price has dropped to $299 for a limited time -- it truly is a Spring miracle.

Microsoft really wants its console to stand alone -- and with the major improvements plus this price cut, the Xbox One is continously making headlines. The cut is a total $50 decrease for the Xbox One, lowering the price to $299.99.

Microsoft started cutting prices on Xbox One bundles by $50 back in March. This new cut includes all Xbox systems at any retail store. But there isn’t any say whether the Xbox will return to the regular price of $350.

Along with this price cut there will be significant discounts on PC, Xbox One and Xbox 360 compatible video game titles. You can save 40 to 60 percent off over 150 titles. Titles will be available in the Xbox Store for both silver and gold members. A few titles that will have this discount are: Call of Duty Black Ops III, Halo 5, Far Cry Primal and  Fallout 4.

Microsoft has been doing tremendous outreach and listening to their consumers. Microsoft customers and O.T. Genasis have been saying the same thing:

“Your price is way too high, you need to cut it,” and Microsoft has listened.

This is the cheapest Microsoft has ever sold a console. Check out this Spring Sale on the Xbox website, the offers are continously being updated.

Noble eSports Contract Scandal https://www.gameskinny.com/04lhp/noble-esports-contract-scandal https://www.gameskinny.com/04lhp/noble-esports-contract-scandal Fri, 06 May 2016 15:00:32 -0400 Ian Ilano

In recent news, Noble e-Sports has been accused of not fulfilling contractual obligations to its players. The team managed to secure a win back at the HWC NA Regional Finals in February, and players have just received their money now — and only a small portion of it, actually.

And as if the tardiness of the payment was unappealing enough, player Tyler "Calm Mentality" Mozingo reportedly received only $206.5 — a mere 8% of the actual prize money. He later took to Twitter to voice his discontent.

Pictured above is Mozingo's split of the $2,500 prize money.

It was discovered that NJRecon, the founder of Noble e-Sports, contacted MLG in order to have the money sent to the organization rather than directly to the players, an act which according to Mozingo, is a direct "breach in contract." Mozingo later attempted to contact both organizations  in order to get a better explanation of the situation.

So far, MLG has yet to respond. However, NJRecon has.

The above picture is NJRecon's response to Mozingo's emails.

In light of the recent allegations, NJRecon released a Twitter statement hoping to further explain the situation.

Although his response seems to briefly cover the reason why the money was sent to the organization rather than directly to the players, the statement failed to provide adequate reasons for why each player only received 8% of the actual earnings. The rest of the statement seems to be more of a personal tirade.

The exact response can be found here.

Provided by Mozingo, pictured above is the supposed Noble player contract.

While it does state specifically in the contract that all prize money shall be paid directly to the company rather than the player, the problem seems to radiate more from how vague and unclear the process of splitting the money between player and organization is. The contract is riddled with percentages and cuts that are confusing without deep consideration.

Official word from Noble eSports regarding how the money was split would be more than enough to put this incident at rest. Until then, the fire grows. The Halo community seems to be up-in-arms about this latest incident.

This post will be updated as more information comes in.

Electronic Sports League and Microsoft band together to bring tournament software to Xbox Live, Xbox Live Tournament Platform.

ESL's new partnership with Microsoft is an innovative step to facilitate more than Call of Duty or Halo tournaments. The Xbox Live Tournament Platform  will allow Xbox to branch off into news games and to run tournaments from the actual console. Chad Gibson, group program manager at Xbox Live stated, the app could be used by gamers to create Rocket League tournaments. The Platform will support both Xbox One and Windows 10.

Not only is Microsoft trying to dive into cross platform gameplay they are trying to bring a solid method of hosting those games, which makes perfect sense; why would you make Blu-Ray players and not make Blu-Rays? You wouldn't! Microsoft has created an esports league for Halo.

There isn't any mentions of a beta or preview for this app but, continue to look forward to a message on XBL asking you to be the first to preview it.

Halo 5's Hammer Storm update brings back original pistol & Firefight news https://www.gameskinny.com/vktio/halo-5s-hammer-storm-update-brings-back-original-pistol-firefight-news https://www.gameskinny.com/vktio/halo-5s-hammer-storm-update-brings-back-original-pistol-firefight-news Wed, 24 Feb 2016 09:53:28 -0500 Anson Chan

One of the most memorable aspects of Halo: Combat Evolved is the incredibly powerful M6D pistol. Those who beat Halo: CE on Legendary know of its propensity to kill Hunters in a single shot, annihilate Banshees as if they were made of paper, and murder more or less everything that you aim it at. Naturally, it came to be the weapon of choice for many in both campaign and multiplayer.

With Halo 5's Hammer Storm update, one of the most iconic weapons of all time returns to multiplayer, unchanged and untouched. That means that it will kill someone within three headshots, feature the classic zoom functionality, and have that classic dull grey paintjob.

In other news...

That being said, the Halo: CE pistol will only be available in REQ packs (for now anyways), alongside the usual plethora of new cosmetic items, Storm Rifle variants, and Gravity Hammers. Therefore, it will actually be rather time consuming for someone to actually unlock the Halo: CE pistol, at least unless you're incredibly lucky.

Fortunately, Halo 5's Hammer Storm update features the return of explosive ball-based gametypes, namely Assault and Grifball.

Furthermore, a new Arena map dubbed Torque has been added into the normal map rotations. On Torque, you will fight on a human space station that has been forcibly evacuated by Cortana. The map is fairly symmetrical, although the team that can control the center of the map gains a slight advantage over the other team.

Prepare for the future (of Firefight)

Speaking of returning gametypes, Halo 3: ODST's signature Firefight mode will return in a future Halo 5 update. Dubbed "Warzone Firefight," you and your friends will be able to team up against increasingly difficult waves of AI controlled enemies.

While the details regarding future updates are scarce (obviously), the names of said upcoming updates has been revealed. The first is called "The Ghosts of Meridian," which presumably features maps based on the planet where Fireteam Osiris first encountered the Warden Eternal. Following that, the "Memories of Reach" will most likely add some maps and cosmetic items that were featured in Halo: Reach. Lastly, "Hog Wild" might bring in some especially large maps, alongside a number of Warthog variants and or racing related gametypes.

Grifball and more coming to Halo 5 in Hammer Storm update https://www.gameskinny.com/80lc7/grifball-and-more-coming-to-halo-5-in-hammer-storm-update https://www.gameskinny.com/80lc7/grifball-and-more-coming-to-halo-5-in-hammer-storm-update Sun, 14 Feb 2016 05:33:20 -0500 Anson Chan

Keeping up with their promise of free monthly updates to Halo 5: Guardians, 343 Industries just announced the addition of several classic Halo gamemodes and features to the game. This February, you can expect to be able to grab all sorts of giant, explosive balls in Grifball, Assault, and Fiesta with the Hammer Storm update.

Of course, you may ask, "But how are we going to smash Grif if there aren't any Gravity Hammers in the game?" Simple: along with the customary bevy of new armor sets, emblems, weapon skins, and Warzone weapons, 343 Industries is adding the classic Gravity Hammer as well.

Speaking of classics, Halo 5 will receive a massive Quality of Life overhaul in the Hammer Storm update in the form of UI improvements and emblem and armor colorization. While the term "UI improvements" is rather ambiguous, it could technically mean that things like the pre- and post-game screens could return to their classic look and functionality. However, this is mere conjecture, so take that with a grain of salt.

Fortunately, it has been explicitly stated that the emblem and armor colorization mechanic will be changed to more resemble the mechanic that existed in the Bungie-era Halo days. In other words, the amount of colors that you can choose from for customization will be doubled to 60 colors, and you will no longer have to choose from a restricted combination of preset colors. Instead, you can mix and match any combination of colors you want to create whatever Spartan you desire.

No update would be complete without new maps, so to that end, a brand new map dubbed Torque will be added to the game. As one can expect from the name, the map will be based on a human space station (maybe even the top of a space elevator?) that features a couple of rings.

Presumably, this might result in a circular arena map, or -- more likely -- something that resembles a remake of the Halo 3 map, Orbital.

This is more than just an expansion for Bungie's popular game. this is practically a separate game of its own. For all its shortcomings, Destiny has maintained a solid player base since its release. Bungie heard the fans complaints and requests, and went above and beyond with this expansion.

\n

New enemy mechanics, improved menus, and better loot distribution makes us wonder how we ever played Destiny without this update.  The game's story also received some much needed narrative improvements. This is the game that Bungie always wanted to create. If you are a Destiny player then acquiring this expansion should be a priority.

Phantom Pain released earlier this year to rave reviews. The last game in the franchise Kojima Productions brought their best with this project. Controls are smooth and rewarding. These controls along with the beautiful graphics allow deep immersion into the games world. This is great because the game offers a great amount of content to get lost in.

Halo 5 will require a 9GB Day One Patch https://www.gameskinny.com/s1g8b/halo-5-will-require-a-9gb-day-one-patch https://www.gameskinny.com/s1g8b/halo-5-will-require-a-9gb-day-one-patch Wed, 21 Oct 2015 08:59:28 -0400 Joe DeClara

Halo 5: Guardians Studio Head Josh Holmes recently announced via Twitter that a 9GB update will be required for the Xbox One shooter upon its release.

According to the tweet (and some replies), the patch directly pertains to multiplayer, and is not necessary for players to enjoy the game's campaign mode.

It was recently discovered that Halo 5: Guardians will require 60GB of free space on Xbox One hard drives for a disc install, meaning nearly 70GB will already be dedicated to the game upon launch. In comparison, Metal Gear Solid 5 requires 25GB of free hard drive space, CoD: Black Ops 3 will take up 45GB on current-gen consoles, and Fallout 4 will come with a 28GB install.

Also, last year's infamous Halo: Master Chief Collection retail edition required 65GB of free space, of which 20GB came from a day one patch; this was then followed by a slew of hefty updates to counter the numerous technical issues which plagued the collection's matchmaking system.

Halo 5: Guardians is set to release on Tuesday, October 27th, and was recently confirmed to have already gone gold

Looking forward to Halo 5 Guardians? Well you have several new multiplayer options to get excited about. Xbox announced the new Spartan Companies feature on their YouTube account today. This addition will change how players participate in multiplayer.

Halo has always had a robust multiplayer mode with a strong following. Spartan Companies are groups created by players that want to customize their multiplayer experience. Players will be able to join or recruit other players into their companies from the Halo waypoint website. Spartan companies allow players to play with who they want to play with. Whether you are a competitive player looking for arena matches, or just a casual player looking for some war zone play, finding similar players will now be far easier and more entertaining.

Players may browse for existing companies or configure their searches for specific types. Not finding anything that matches your style? Then start your own company. Being part of a company gives up to 100 members access to private forums. Here they can schedule matches or discuss strategy. Members will be able to compare armor customizations, load outs, and stats with other members.

Players who join or create a Spartan Company will receive a free rec pack once their company has four or more members. Customize the look of your company by creating emblems, banners, and mottos. Players will only be able to sign up for one company at a time, so choose wisely.

What are you waiting for head over to the Halo waypoint site and start building your company.

Halo 5: Guardians releases this week on the 27th. There is still time to pre-order and receive several bonuses.

Everything you need to know about Halo universe https://www.gameskinny.com/jx7iu/everything-you-need-to-know-about-halo-universe https://www.gameskinny.com/jx7iu/everything-you-need-to-know-about-halo-universe Sat, 26 Sep 2015 12:22:35 -0400 Sergey_3847

The biggest exclusive for Xbox One is coming out on October 27, 2015 – Halo 5: Guardians. This is the fifth installment in the main series of the Halo games, which began its world domination in 2001. Throughout the years, the universe of Halo has been growing more and more, and it's gotten to the point that if you’ve missed a game or two, it can be pretty hard to put all the pieces back together. Some people have never even played the previous installments, but do want to try Guardians out.

The best case scenario would be to play through all the games in the beloved franchise and gain full personal insight into the story and the characters. But who has time for that? That’s why I'm giving you a brief analysis of the key concepts and events of the Halo universe.

After reading this guide, you will be ready for the events of the upcoming Halo 5 game. However, if you still plan on playing some of the previous games, be prepared for the spoilers. Now, let’s begin from the very basics.

Introduction

The events of Halo take place in the twenty-sixth century. In this far future, mankind continues to explore near-Earth space and begins the process of colonization of other planets.

The first contact with extraterrestrial life forms happens in the year 2525, and the aliens turn out to be extremely hostile creatures. This event unleashes the main conflict, which involves the principal aggressor - the Covenant, a conglomerate of alien races. The only force capable of resisting the Covenant is a team of super-soldiers, known as the SPARTANs, which includes the protagonist of the series - Master Chief.

The Precursors and the Forerunners

First came the Precursors, then the Forerunners. These were the representatives of the ancient races that perished hundreds of thousands of years ago. There isn’t much information about the Precursors, except that they were the creators of all living things, including people. The Forerunners, on the other hand, have a much richer mythology. It is believed that the Forerunners were the ones who overthrew and almost completely destroyed their creators. According to one version, the creators personally acknowledged the Forerunners as a mistake, which eventually led to a riot.

“The Forerunners were a wise, highly intelligent, noble beings and with a belief in justice, in peace, they bravely faced the adversary. They sought to sterilize it.” - Cortana on the Forerunners

Whatever it was, the Forerunners became the strongest and most advanced race in the universe, who took the responsibility to protect other, weaker species.

The Flood (The Parasite)

“One single Flood spore can destroy a species.” - Rtas 'Vadum, Halo 3.

It wasn’t a spontaneous natural phenomenon, although it was just as destructive. An invasion of parasites - Inferi redivivus, was the punishment afflicted on the Forerunners by those remaining few of their creators. The Forerunners had been fighting this plague for three hundred years, but the harder they tried to destroy it, the more parasites spawned from the spores, driven by only one instinct - to infect and devour everything that is sentient.

The Halos

The Forerunners had no choice, and they put all their efforts into creating biological weapons – the Halos (Halo Array, Sacred Rings). This weapon could destroy all of life within the galaxy - that was the only way out, destroying the only source of Flood’s nutrition.

“The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death.” - Cortana to John 117 and 343 Guilty Spark.

It’s interesting that the inner surface of the rings was suitable for life. With the help of terraforming, it became possible to create favorable conditions for the flora and fauna to further explore the impact of the Flood on different organisms.

Initially, eighteen rings with a diameter of 8,000 kilometers each were created on an installation facility called The Great Ark – the only place that was protected from the impact of the Halos. Subsequently, some Halos were destroyed or simply lost. However, the remaining seven were enough to put an end to the Flood, and unavoidably, to other life forms in the galaxy, as well.

“Halo doesn't kill Flood. It kills their food. Humans, Covenant, whatever. We're all equally edible. The only way to stop the Flood is to starve them to death. And that's exactly what Halo is designed to do: wipe the galaxy clean of all sentient life.” - Cortana

After activating the Halos, the galaxy was seeded with life once again, and the remnants of the Flood disappeared for many years. This ends the history of the Forerunners and starts a new cycle.

The Covenant

Hundreds of thousands of years later, another group of beings boldly declared itself as the supreme one - the Covenant, a union of many races from different parts of the universe. Each species occupied a certain place within the empire, depending on its abilities.

With all its diversity, the Covenant, like many other nations, was united by one faith. The Forerunners disappeared, leaving almost no traces behind, except a couple of artifacts. Those few relics discovered by the Covenant made its people believe in its supremacy. Since then, they’ve been worshipping the Forerunners like gods, and thinking that Halos were the gates to immortality - the Great Journey, which, of course, was a big mistake.

“None will be left behind when our Great Journey begins! That is the Prophet's age-old promise. And it shall be fulfilled!” - The Prophet of Regret

The Covenant, unlike the Forerunners, developed very slowly and produced most of its weapons and equipment in accordance with the “messages of the gods" and used their processing technology. Nevertheless, they managed to learn enough to be able to build spaceships, military transport, plasma beams, and chemical weapons.

The Conflict

During the search for the new artifacts, the Covenant had its first contact with people, and the subsequent war began. The next relic to be found on the human colonized planet Harvest clarified the true meaning behind the messages of the Forerunners, which said that their true heirs were humans and not the Covenant.

So, the Supreme Council of the Covenant had no choice but to declare humanity as heretics and start the war with them. This war would last for more than thirty years.

“At this point in time, the Covenant is at its most evil. They are hell-bent on the destruction of humanity, on scouring us from the universe.” - Graeme Devine, Lead Writer, formerly Lead Developer

The SPARTANs

Technologically, the Covenant was far ahead of humanity, so people had to create and improve their own weapon base. This war would have ended quickly enough if humans didn't develop their first batch of super-soldiers – the SPARTANs, physically perfect and cybernetically modified fighters.

Dr. Catherine Halsey was considered the creator of the SPARTANs, including the training program and modification of MJOLNIR, the super advanced exoskeleton to which the SPARTANs owe most of their abilities. Subsequent generations of SPARTANs developed without the participation of Dr. Halsey.

“My SPARTANs are Humanity's next step - our destiny as a species.”

- Catherine Halsey, describing the SPARTANs to an ONI interrogator

Initially, the SPARTANs headed peacekeeping missions, in particular missions to crush the rebellion against the unified government of the Earth. Fortunately or unfortunately, they had to deal with another kind of threat.

Master Chief

“He is neither the smartest, nor the fastest, nor the strongest of the Spartans. But he is the bravest, and quite possibly the luckiest. And in my opinion, he is the best.” - Dr. Catherine Halsey to Cortana

The most famous SPARTAN soldier is Master Chief, also known as John-117. Generally, super-soldiers don’t recognize the titles and choose one leader among their peers. However, the authority of Master Chief was so great that he was recognized as the Chief Petty Officer of all the SPARTANs.

The Covenant simply called him "Demon." Due to his efforts, many of their attacks were repelled, the Halo rings were deactivated, and the truce was established. The Covenant subsequently collapsed and some of its members teamed up with humans. The rest of the defeated Covenant races formed the Covenant Remnant and continued to fight.

Cortana

Before gaining popularity as an AI assistant in the new operating system from Microsoft, Cortana was an assistant to Master Chief. Dr. Halsey created Cortana for one of the first operations of the SPARTANs. They needed to hack the AI and gain data analysis. However, Cortana turned out to be much more than that.

In the Halo universe, in order to create an AI, a dead person’s brain was usually used. But in the case of Cortana, Dr. Halsey created a copy of her own brain. One day, studying the ins and outs of the SPARTANs' training program, Cortana swore to defend the Master Chief at any cost - even if she couldn’t last longer than seven years, the life cycle of the normal AI.

“They let me pick. Did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others, you were strong and swift and brave. A natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw, but me. Can you guess...? Luck.” -Cortana

The Prometheans

“They're Forerunner robots. Hard light in battle armor. What can they offer us? Nothing but trouble, doctor. They're simply killing machines.”

- SPARTAN Gabriel Thorne.

In Halo 4, we get to fight the new breed of enemies - the Prometheans. They once served as warrior-servants for the Forerunners. In order to avoid the destructive force of the Halos, they turned themselves into digital beings, thus being able to disintegrate into particles. Together with their lord Didact, they disappeared into the primary fortress world - Requiem.

After the defeat of Didact, the Prometheans joined the Covenant Remnant and its leader - Jul 'Mdama. This, as well as the uncertain fate of Master Chief and Dr. Halsey, who was forced to join the Covenant, is where the story picks up in Halo 5: Guardians.

If I got a dollar for every time I wrote about a leak this year, I could afford a copy of Halo 5: Guardians. Which is all the more appropriate, seeing as Halo 5 is the latest game to accidentally leak something to the world at large. An update got sent out to the now defunct Halo 5: Guardians beta that came with Halo: The Master Chief Collection and included fifteen minutes worth of Halo 5's soundtrack. Most notable is the returning theme from the original game, remixed for the latest Halo game.

I strongly advise you watch it while you can, as the original upload (according to the repost's description) was set to private not too long ago. Still, for a little time, you can appreciate some of Halo 5's new composition. As a series fan, I have to admit that it sounds like a welcome return to form after the more minimalistic Halo 4 soundtrack.

For those who'd like to compare the new remix to the original theme, here's Halo: Combat Evolved's main theme.
